Heliboard can have swipe typing. It relies on a closed source library though, so...

I agree that people can live their reality how they want but it also has to be remembered that everything is political so if you avoid politics it's hard to complain when things aren't going your way. Particularly if you live in a democratic system.

They note other countries have done it with success but that the welfare of keeping cats locked indoors all the time would also need to be considered.

A good minimalist text based launcher that's open source is Olauncher. Maybe not what you're after (comparing it to Smart Launcher) but thought I'd suggest it just in case.
