I learn something new every day.

Hah true that! Cardboard and packing paper are some of her favorite things to play with, and we'll often let her tear boxes up a bit before recycling.

Her human servants know that all things must be kept up to her exacting standards. πŸ’…

For the cat litter, I've started to save and use the plastic bags we get with our food anyways. Lots of things like frozen food, bread, chips, whatever, come in bags that can have a second use before being thrown away.

Had no idea how crazy huge Mariposa and San Diego Counties used to be.

There was also this little inset showing how Mariposa County was eventually broken up into the current day counties.

Everyone knows that cats are liquid, but I think they also exhibit gaseous properties, in that they are capable of expanding to fill any available space. No matter how large the bed, it will never be enough.

With my office being in Little Tokyo, I usually grab sushi or ramen when eating out, but this Reuben kicked ass and I'm glad I gave this spot a try.

Nah that's the mycelium being all fluffy.

I'm sure it was stable enough, but the glass on the rounded pillar makes me nervous!

Made by Sleeping Village Brewing out of Oslo. I later happened to have their Brakkoness Gose while visiting TromsΓΈ, which was a wonderful sour with salt and coriander.

Oh you're right, it's not against the rules and I haven't reported it or anything. There's a whole discussion that could be had about the many issues of AI, but with this specific example, my main ick is the authenticity of the joke and the implications for misinformation.

The image could have been a comic version of the same "strip joint skeleton Halloween decoration" and still been funny, but the idea of someone actually putting in the effort to build it in their yard adds to the humor. For me, the generation is almost good enough to look real at a quick glance, but the sense of something being off and subsequent realization that I've been "fooled" into thinking it was a real photo kills that humor and leaves a sour feeling.

It also concerns me that as AI image generation gets better, the easy tells become harder and harder to spot. This picture is harmless, but imagine the potential damage of a better fake image of a more scandalous topic.

I couldn't figure out the limb positions on the stripper, and the more I looked, the more obvious this is AI. Funny idea, too bad it's generated slop.

I couldn't manage to capture how truly neon yellow the white was, it was almost highlighter colored. The yolk broke super easily, and at first I thought it was rotten, but it had no smell.

With a precursory bit of searching, it seems this could either be the result of bacteria getting in the egg, or that the chicken had a diet high in insects and this egg is extra nutritious.

Her name is Sofrito, and we also call her the Purrito Bandito. Previous nicknames while in kittenhood included noddlebones (she tended to flop when picked up), ragamuffin, and fetid moppet.

Truly a magnificent creature lording over her domain.

Well that's sad, but understandable.

Artwork I saw in a gorgeous mid-century modern home while on a vintage house tour.

Text below says: "Ever since he was an owlet, this Horned Owl has dreamed of flying to the moon. Until NASA finally approves his application, however, he will continue training in the anti-gravitational chamber he has made out of twigs, found string, and pellets."

I got them in that order too

Today she caught a cricket that managed to find its way inside the house, and in a manner both cute and horrifying, playfully dismembered it before eating the thing.

I won't call it pizza, because of how royally I screwed up the crust. I was trying to use this Serious Eats recipe, but my aging food scale severely under-weighed the volume of water, so at first I ended up with a wet paste rather than a dough. I kept adding a few tablespoons of flour and mixing until it finally looked like dough, though by this point it was over-kneaded and under yeasted, and didn't really rise.

Regardless, I decided to send it. Used a yogurt feta dip (made WAY too much and trying to use it up) as sauce, then topped with thyme, onion, mushroom, broccoli, mozzarella, and crumbles of some old dried out mortadella. Topped with some grated parmesan once out of the oven, and it tasted pretty good, albeit a bit dry.

Just over a month ago, this little kitten showed up on our doorstep. The security camera showed her making a beeline right up our driveway and onto the porch, where she sat screaming her head off until we heard and opened the door.

She was nothing but bones underneath the matted fluff, but she was immediately friendly and surprisingly trusting. I had been wanting a second cat and my husband jokes that my desire manifested this little one, who we named Sofrito, or Sofi for short. β™₯️
