I had to look up Yuzuki Family as that show was not even on my radar for this season. There are so many shows coming out each season that it is hard to keep up. On the flip side, that usually means that you can always find a couple shows that really click with you each season. It certainly sounds wholesome from the synopsis. Might be one to queue up when it's been a while since I talked with my brother.
Are you watching Trigun (1998) or Trigun Stampede (2023)? My wife loves Trigun and we are planning on watching it soon (working through another show right now). However, she was really put off by Stampede's art style and gave it a pass.
In my opinion, Your Name is an excellent movie. I am not sure how much you know, but if possible, I would recommend going in as blind as you can. I have read some reviews that criticize the plot being convoluted or full of holes, but I feel like a lot of those come from a place of wanting to be contrarian for the sake of it. There is a reason it has 98% on RT and is #1 most popular title on AniList. Also, if you are a fan of animation as an art, the movie is absolutely gorgeous.
Enjoy!
I love the OP animation sequence. It really shows the lengths to which Rentaro will go for his family and showcases the personalities of the different girls. I had forgotten just how thirsty Hakari was in this story as it has been a little while since I read the manga (I'm not fully up to date). So far the show has done a good job capturing the absurdity of the source while retaining the wholesomeness of the interactions of our named cast of characters.
Also, the vice principal gag is really off-putting, especially when it is animated. I was not a fan of those parts of the episode. The good news is that I don't really remember her character really factoring into the story much going forward.
Enjoyed the first episode a lot. It's good to see that they have kept the meta-humor feel to the series. In the manga, there are lots of meta-jokes referencing things like panels, the artist, chapters, etc. So, I am glad to see that during the conversation with the god, that the meta-jokes remain strong when he talks about getting lines cut from the manga and then we literally see a skip button and a mouse click it like its a game or something. This one looks like it will be a lot of fun. Kind of funny that this is airing the same season as Kanojo mo Kanojo.
I agree that a weekly pinned thread where non-seasonal anime could be discussed would be great. I also watch some older shows and there isn't anywhere in this community currently to discuss them other than just creating a new post; which a lot of people like yourself tend to find a high barrier to entry.
Make sure to check out the search history on his phone.
Others in the thread have already given some good suggestions. In particular I will add another vote for Wotakoi and Horimiya if you haven't seen them yet. Some more that I enjoyed:
- Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!: I would classify this one as more comedy than romance, but it is a pretty good mix. Focuses on a former chuunibyou (during middle school) that has a new neighbor that is a current chuunibyou (in high school) and the relationship that they form. Along the way they pick up a crew of chuuni-adjacent friends.
- Koi wa Sekai Seifuku no Ato de: This one is more comedy than romance. The basic premise is that the leader of a sentai group of heroes falls in love with one of the generals of the evil organization they are fighting against. I adore this series and it always breaks my heart that the manga didn't perform well enough to keep it going.
- Rikei ga Koi ni Ochita no de Shoumei shitemita: This one is not as strong as the others I have listed in my opinion, but if you are a connoisseur of the genre you might appreciate it. Basically, two data scientists try to mathematically prove through statistics/experiments that they are in love with one another. So, the comedy focuses on replicating a lot of tropes from the romcom genre and then collecting data about it. This one has two seasons, but I personally think the first season is a pretty good standalone season. The end of season 2 was...a choice...but it kind of ruined a lot of the good work done elsewhere in the series.
Agreed entirely. It really shows how little they think of the viewer/reader that they feel the need to explicitly state it. Add it to the pile of poor storytelling choices in this show (my previous rant about this). I am not familiar with the source material, so I can't pinpoint where the issue lies, but it continues to disappoint.
Had the same thought. I expected her to call Anne by the name Vermilio as she was monologuing to herself while the boat was sailing away.
This show continues to deliver in an absurd kind of way. It has turned out to be a bit of a comfy dungeon SOL show with combat more or less serving to show off some creative liberties of the MCs abilities.
Also, I usually skip OP/EDs, but I really like the ED for this show. As it has settled into a groove, the ED fits the show pretty well.
I think that if they mess with his brother he could snap pretty easily. One of the only things we knew about Helck in the early part of the season is that he was supposed to have killed his brother. So, I fully expect the humans to force some kind of confrontation between Helck and Cless or just kill Cless and frame Helck so that Helck doesn't spread the truth about the demons.
