I have a couple tweaks to the list I posted previously. I plan on watching a handful of shows in the new season:

Definitely watching

  • Frieren - continuing from last season. Has been absolutely phenomenal so far.
  • Delicious in Dungeon - A very well-received manga being adapted by Studio Trigger. Say no more.
  • Villainess Level 99 - I really like the source for this one but thought that it was too niche to ever be adapted to an anime. I don't expect this to be everybody's cup of tea, but I hope it is going to be done well.
  • Tsukimichi Season 2 - I really like the source material for this one and the first season was...alright. The story gets better as it goes and it changed studios for the second season (and got 2 cours for season 2), so I am hoping the animation improves alongside the story.
  • Apothecary Diaries - This show is continuing from the fall season, but I haven't actually seen any of it yet. I plan on trying to catch up over this coming winter season so that I can end it being caught up. I actually work professionally in medicine, so I am looking forward to it!

Hoping to watch (time permitting)

  • The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic - The source for this one is decent and the beginning couple bits of this story are the best that I am familiar with. So, time permitting, I am hoping to see the best character Rose in anime form.
  • 'Tis Time for Torture Princess - I have read a couple chapters of this manga, but I am curious to see how an anime adaptation will work.

Might pick up depending on reviews

  • Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! - I have heard good things about the source for this one, but I don't really know anything about it. I am going to wait to see how well it is received as an adaptation. I might just opt to read the manga instead.
  • Metallic Rouge - This is an anime original, but it looks awesome. I had to cut it for time, but if it is reviewed super well and another show I am watching is disappointing, I might bump it up into the regularly watching column.

Bot maintainer made a post over here.

tl;dr is that the short term plan is to try to reverse the defederation. Longer term plan if that doesn't work is probably to try to resume posting with a user on a different instance.

The root of the problem is that the anime community on the lemmy-verse has more or less consolidated to this community for episode discussions. If you look at other instances, there is a huge drop off in activity when it comes to episode discussion communities compared to here. So, it would not make sense to try to move this community to another instance as that would pretty much destroy what has been built up here compared with just moving the host instance for the bot.

One of the things I like about this series is how they use real artists/albums/songs rather than slightly changing names like is usually done. I say that, but on the first page it says Benny's instead of the real Denny's.

Great title drop to end the episode. In case you missed it last week, there was a discussion about the translation of the title in the discussion thread for episode 7. Looks like they went with Frieren the Slayer (at least in my subs, sometimes it can vary by region).

Frieren decided to break the number one rule in any D&D party by splitting up. She wanted to go solo the boss to get all the good loot for herself I guess. I am really looking forward to next episode as I remember the confrontation with Aura was one of my favorite confrontations of the manga (though the action is not necessarily my favorite part of Frieren). I don't remember all the details though as I haven't gone back and reread this one other than to spot check a thing or two as they have progressed through the adaptation.

Hi /c/anime! It's nice to speak with you all again on this bright and cheery Monday morning. Once again, this is the general discussion thread for anybody to ask questions about anime, talk about old series, or even just vent about a topic (What's with all the edgy shows this season?! Am I right?).

Just remember to, like always, tag your spoilers! If you forget, the big, bad production-delay monster will come for your favorite airing series!

I continue on my unending quest to keep up with good Oneshots that I see get posted to Mangadex. It means I have to sort through the giant pile of Touhou doujin oneshots that get posted, but I do it for all of you out of love. Some of my favorites from the past week:

  • Shishunki ni Rikai no Aru Ane no Hanashi - A silly story about an older sister trying her best to be understanding of her brother as he experiences the trials and tribulations of puberty.
  • Futari no Kyori - A single page oneshot that nails the punchline.
  • Android wa Bug wo Shiranai - Learning about human emotion through an android.
  • Boing Ninja - Like Naruto, but with more boing.
  • NSFW Shokujin Shokuyuujou - This isn't the sexy kind of NSFW, this one is a horror oneshot. I am not usually a fan of horror in manga/anime, but I thought this one was well done.

Finally, I will wrap up this post with my weekly shoutout to read Atsumare! Fushigi Kenkyu-bu.

Another great episode. Really loved the first part about Himmel not wanting Frieren to be alone and that is why he had so many statues made.

One of the (many) things that I really enjoy about this series is its portrayal of demons. They really feel quite alien but relatable at the same time. They fall right into an uncanny middle between human and monster that always has you second guessing yourself about them. Frieren probably says it best in that they can understand our speech, but can't be communicated with; drawing a clear line between being able to speak and being able to understand and convey thoughts and emotions through speech.

There are many parallels I can draw between this series and Mushishi, but this portrayal of demons reminds me a bit of how mushi are described by Ginko. They are more or less wild things living in nature and when they intersect with humans bad things can happen, but it isn't out of malice or any kind of emotion, it is simply surviving in the environment it finds itself. I think Frieren views demons in much the same way. They are not hurting humans out of malice, but simply creatures that find themselves in a world full of humans. As a survival strategy, the demons found ways to use humans to their advantage, it just so happens that those strategies involve manipulating and taking advantage of human emotions.

Looking through the shows I have enjoyed the most in the past couple years here are some that I don't see on your list:

  • Bocchi the Rock
  • Eminence in Shadow
  • Lycoris Recoil
  • Heavenly Delusion
  • Oshi no Ko

Also, it might be (quite) a bit older, but if you really feel like you need something dripping with melancholy, I would recommend Mushi-shi.

It's great to see Frieren recognizing that she has changed since the last time she fought one of those monsters and illusory Himmel was such a bro to make it easy for her to blast him. I think it is a bit unfair to criticize Fern for freezing up fighting a monster when she did just fine against Qual when he was unsealed. Looking forward to seeing the party fully assembled and some action next episode.

Also, the OP has grown on me a bit since last week. It's not my favorite ever, but it is pretty good, especially paired with great visuals. The ED is amazing though.

My thoughts on shows I watched this season fall into a couple groups.

The Good:

  • Helck: This one is still going since it is running for two cours. I have enjoyed the slow, mysterious world building they have done. It really feels like they are taking their time to build things up in a rewarding way. It has also had good comedy bits and Vermilio serves as an excellent straight man to the clowns that seem to be everywhere else in this world (I mean that in the most loving way possible).
  • Isekai Vending Machine: When I started this series, I had low expectations based on the idiocy of the premise. However, it has far exceeded my expectations and has actually been really fun. If you can get past the ridiculous premise and accept a bit of silliness when it comes to combat, then there is actually a story with some heart and thought behind this ridiculous title.
  • Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero: This is another that I expected to not be that great, but turned out to be a pretty satisfying fantasy story. The characters and their interactions in this show are the best part of this show. The political storyline that is happening is a bit bland, but doesn't drag the show too much.
  • Horimiya Pieces: I am a huge fan of the manga for this series, so I was happy to see this anthology of cut content from the original run of the show. However, I think that viewers that aren't as familiar with the source content might not be as engaged with this run of episodes since it focuses more on side characters than the titular Hori and Miyamura.

The Bad:

  • Atelier Ryza: This one was tough for me to stay awake while watching. I understand that the game is widely beloved, but the adaptation to a show just fell flat for me. I don't know how much of the game was adapted, but the whole season feels like they are just stuck in some kind of tutorial rather than undertaking some grand adventure.
  • Am I Actually the Strongest: This show was just bad. I have seen/read a lot of really bad isekai and this one might take the cake. The story is incredibly oddly paced; flying through extremely important plot segments and then dwelling for an excrutiatingly long time on fluff/omake stuff that doesn't matter at all. Just steer clear of this one, it's really bad, but not so bad it is funny. It is just really bad.

The Mixed Feelings:

  • My Happy Marriage: I have written a lot about this series in the episode threads already, so I will keep it short here. The first half of this season is excellent and really sets up the potential for a great period romance. However, the second half of the show is incredibly disappointing in this regard and just feels so lackluster compared to what was set up through episode 6.

The only other show from this season I am watching is Zom 100. It has been pretty great so far, but because of the delays in production, I don't want to make any final verdicts about it.

I have made a conscious effort to seek out and post oneshots to this community as I felt as though nobody in the community was really posting any. So, I am going to devote my post this week to the oneshots I have found recently that are good. But first, my weekly reminder to check out Atsumare! Fushigi Kenkyu-bu as it is my favorite SOL series going.

  • Nondemiru?: This is a oneshot by a brand new author that won an award to get it published. It is very cute yuri and I really wish there was more.
  • Senpai no Tokubetsu: Another very cute yuri oneshot that is a very quick read. Often these very short oneshots feel just long enough to setup a premise and then end, but this one felt a bit more fleshed out.
  • Silver Rock: In case you thought I only read yuri content, here is one about a grandpa helping out his grandkid. It is on the long side, but is very worth it. I might be biased into liking this one since I lost my grandfather not too long ago.
  • Shabondama: This is one that I would have never read unless I was specifically looking for oneshots. It is a quick read not only due to page count, but that there is basically no dialogue. The thing that I really liked about it was how the art style is very distinctive and dreamy while the content ultimately contrasts with that (trying not to give spoilers).
  • A Villain Will Never Give Up: This one features a villain from a Sentai show and the bond that she forms with her evil robot creation. It's cute and worth the read.
  • [NSFW] Hiroshima Gyaru wa Suki Darake: Found this one right after making this post initially, so I will just add it here. This one is about a man who is stranded away from home and a friendly gal that comes to his aid.

Lastly, a oneshot that I decided against posting to the community ultimately because I had a bit of a hard time following the story (flashbacks are not very well delineated), but some people might find it worth checking out:

  • Heelmaker: This one is (I am pretty sure) about a former yakuza debt collector that becomes a professional wrestler, specifically playing a heel character. He forms a bond with a girl and her siblings that we find out he has a bit of history with.

Disclaimer: I have no insight whatsoever into the production process for this show behind the scenes.

That out of the way, it is a bit ironic that this show is the one with the troubled production and (likely) crunch for the staff as the whole motivation for the MC is to escape being overworked and pursue passions instead.

I have a Brother MFC Color Laser and everything here is true for the color version as well. I haven't had too many issues with wifi jank after I set a static ip both on the router side and the printer side, and then map the printer by ip port on the computer. However, it still acts up every now and then. I plan on fishing some ethernet to that corner of the office, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
