This is a great one. I remember seeing this back on reddit a while back, it's great to revisit it. I am a big fan of short but meaningful stories, and this one definitely qualifies.

These two finally went on a date. However neither of them seem to be able to function like a normal human being. So...small step forward? I wonder if Ooya (landlady's daughter) is aware of the date.

There are already some good recommendation in this thread and I will second some of them in my list:

  • Baccano!
  • Kino's Journey: Yes, the main character is not an adult, but it handles very mature themes and is similar in feel to Mushishi
  • Ghost in the Shell
  • Samurai Champloo

This isn't really an answer, but I spent a lot of time trying different voice chat systems out a couple years back, but couldn't get my social group to move off Discord.

So, the real answer is any that you can convince the people you want to talk with to use. However other options include Mattermost, Jitsi, Mumble, Teamspeak, and Nextcloud Talk off the top of my head. I think I remember seeing that rocket.chat has voice now too.

I think you are right. I had thought at first that Frieren was referencing Fern hesitating against Illusion-Heiter with this comment. However, it stands to reason that Fern had fought monsters on her journey with Frieren before fighting Qual. I think it would be especially cruel to have Qual be the first non-training fight you make your student experience.

You bring up an interesting point that I hadn't really thought of before. The fact that Fern is being raised through her adolescence by Frieren must have an impact on her. Frieren does not really seem like the type to be emotionally supportive as Fern is dealing with a tumultuous world around her on this journey. It would probably make Fern a bit weird to other humans as she has certainly picked up aspects of Frieren's personality that have rubbed off onto her (just like Fern has influenced Frieren).

Production issues continue for Zom 100. As pretty as this anime looks, especially for the studio's first production, the project management seems to be a mess.

The obvious outlier this week is Rent a Girlfriend. I wonder what part of the story triggered the jump in votes. I would check it out for myself but I already hate-read the manga, so I don't think I can handle any more of that story in my life.

This isn't your typical yuri oneshot. It's an award winning yuri oneshot.

Agree about that final guy. The proportions just seem a little off, similar to some of the titans from Attack on Titan.

The layers of irony surrounding his misunderstanding about how chuuni Claire is has to be one of my favorite recurring jokes. We first saw it in LN3 and I was so glad to see it come back in LN5.

I use LNReader to read fan translations of web novels. If you have ever used Tachiyomi for manga before, then LNReader is basically the same but for text.

This is interesting and I wish that he went into some more detail on how they spray dry without destroying protein activity. I actually have some first-hand experience trying to develop a spray drying method for antibody solutions for immunotherapy products. Ultimately, I left that company, but the real big problem was that most antibodies can't survive the temperature needed for spray drying. For this reason, usually freeze drying is used instead (there are even techniques for spray freeze drying). They claim that the process inactivates viral capsids, but preserves antibody activity and having worked with both in the past, that seems like a bold claim.

Lemmy note: I had originally made this comment from my account on Beehaw, but it doesn't seem to have federated over. So, if you see this twice, my apologies.
