Deadline confirms that The Great When, a new fantasy novel by Moore, is getting a TV adaptation. The production company Playground landed the rights to The Great When, a fantasy graphic novel that was published by Bloomsbury on October 1. It's the first in Moore’s planned five-volume Long London series of epic fantasy novels, which Playground plans to adapt into a series that spans several seasons. Moore reacted to the news in the statement below:

For the first time in my career, I’m genuinely excited and enthusiastic about a work of mine…one that I own, and believe could work marvelously in a different medium…being adapted for the screen.

In Playground, I feel that I’ve connected with people who respect both me and the narrative and are receptive to such input as I can offer. And, given Playground’s track record, I have little doubt that this will be anything short of spectacular. It’s taken me some time, but I think at last I’m ready for my closeup.

...

Alan Moore doesn't mince words when it comes to adaptations of his work, as well as notable criticisms of the current state of the comic book industry and superhero movies. It is understandable, considering his conflict with DC Comics and the long disagreements between the two sides. Perhaps the most significant part of The Great When adaptation, coming from an author who has not always given his stamp of approval, is that he's embraced it.

Her research reveals that the region’s early inhabitants moved hazelnuts long distances and managed the shrubby plants, creating and maintaining “large-scale ecosystems and sometimes entire watersheds through prescribed burning and forest clearing, transplanting [and] rock wall constructions” to foster perennial plant species.

“To have this hazelnut study come out and learn that it’s around 7,000 years that the First Nations brought hazelnuts and planted them here was insane,” he said, noting that it meant First Nations were growing food “before ancient Egyptians were planting their wheat fields.”

The research could have big implications for Indigenous land claims, Armstrong added, by challenging existing narratives that First Nations lived passively on the landscape rather than actively tending it.

Nose (lemmy.world)

Just like the average amount of limbs on a human body is less than 4 and the average amount of skeletons in a human body is greater than 1, my drawings now average more than zero noses. Maybe even half a nose after this?

To add some more info, I'm using Debian 12 and Firefox 132.0 (Flatpak version). I used Gnome's Screencast to record the clip but for some reason, I couldn't get the mouse/pointer to show up in the video even though I had "Show Pointer" enabled.

Last but not least, since my username appears on the video and I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea: I moderate a community called c/kickasswomen and everyone whose content is posted on that community has given me their permission—I don't steal anyone's content nor do I post anything without their consent.

I have a Surface Go tablet that I switched over to Linux a while back, and just came across a problem that I don't know how to approach. I use an iDataLink Maestro module in my car to make an aftermarket stereo do what I want it to do. I want to check for a firmware update on it, but the management software tool is windows or mac only.

So I installed WINE and the PlayonLinux front end. I successfully installed the tool (Weblink) but the keyboard doesn't work so I can't log into it. The trackpad works though, and this is a directly connected keyboard/trackpad, so for one to work but not the other seems weird. I can find threads about non-functional keyboards with some games, but I honestly don't understand the guidance being dished out.

How can I troubleshoot and fix this keyboard issue?
