The mark to be appealing to "typical public sector organisation[s]" is quite high, but in regards to the team (one man?) I'm remembered of elmenteryOS and how the two founders managed before splitting ways. They pulled it off for a while.

Just here to shed some light on Bookwyrm.social, the Fediverse equivalent of Goodreads. I've been doing some more reading lately, and I like to keep track of what I read and also I like reading other's review, suggestions, etc. Now I boycot amazon and others big tech as much as possible, so for me Bookwyrm.social is the place to be. It's steadily growing I think, but I thought it deserved some more attention, therefor this post. Same goes for BookBrainz and to a lesser extend IA's Openlibrary. OpenLibrary is, among other things, a place where people catalogue book-metadata, and if a book is not on Bookwyrm.social yet, it can often be imported from OpenLibrary. Problem with OpenLibrary is that the data is often messy and there are a lot of duplicates. That's where BookBrainz comes in, the book-equivalent of MusicBrainz. They're not that big yet, but what they do very well is that they have got very clean data. I feel like BookBrainz has the potential to be the perfect source of data on books, for other apps to use as they please, similar to how MusicBrainz is already functioning. It just needs more contributors, but I'm sure it's steadily growing. I just started doing my part, adding the books I read on all three.

Would love to hear thoughts on these platforms, as well as other platform suggestion if you've got any.

Well the title says it already. Is it possible to source an ergonomic keyboard from the EU? After finding the tenth keyboard layout or music keyboard page I'm giving up searching and start asking.

I've found several EU resellers but not yet something really produced locally

Bonus points for split keyboard and being custom flashable (would love native neo2 support).

Since I’m a more of a tablet user, my daily devices are iPhone and iPad at the moment. I’m using Safari with AdGuard and private relay, but I was thinking of switching to Vivaldi. AFAIK the engine is practically the same and doing so I would also lose private relay and extensions support. I’ve already ditched other Apple apps and switched to EU services on almost everything (also not Apple related) What do you think? What do you use on iOS?

A few years ago (during COVID-19), I played around with a lot of meditation/yoga apps, and finally settled on "Down Dog". Now I wanted to get back into meditation, and almost renewed my down dog subscription, but then remembered that it is US-based.

So I was wondering if you have any suggestions regarding EU-based meditation apps? I searched for alternative on the sites set up for finding EU alternatives, but didn't see any suggestions (will add a few after hearing your inputs).

I have "Meditopia" and "7Mind" on my radar, but before committing to one of them, I wanted to hear about your experiences, and possibly other/better alternatives. In particular, I am looking for an option that allows me to set duration/type/theme flexibly, to use it in different conditions throughout the day.

Wherever you login with gmail account, meta/facebook or microsoft account consider to switch to european email user.

Even you don't 'buy' a login big companies might collect timestamps and kind of accounts you are in.

You pay with your data and should consider to use european email identification as user on any platforms instead .

I see a lot of posts of people complaining that some import products from the EU are too expensive in their own country - namely there was a viral post about someone from Bulgaria sharing that the German Fritz Cola is 2x more expensive than the US alternatives.

In this movement no one is asking you to buy Fritz, buy Bulgarian alternatives first - I am sure there are plenty of bulgarian cola alternatives.

If you live in Bulgaria (ofc whichever country actually) this is best thing to do:

1. ⁠Buy as local for your city, region you can get (support small companies, mom & pop shops, farmers etc)
2. Buy generally Bulgarian stuff to support your own economy
3. Buy EU stuff to support EU economy
4. Buy Canada or any other ally nation stuff to support good relationship
5. Buy from USA, China etc (arguably buy Chinese before american)

Ofc the list is just an example on the thought process, you can also make your own list based on your own convictions

I need to buy big mirrors (at least 65x150cm).

IKEA has two options that would satisfy my needs, Nissedal and Hovet but they are both produced in China.

I am well aware that IKEA is a European-owned company and that the current aims of this community are centered around ditching American products and brands but since the community is called BuyFromEU I thought maybe I could still give it a try.

So I would be happy about any recommendations on mirrors that are produced in the EU and are at least of these dimensions :D

This is an Austrian company that offers mobile payments with barcode/qr-code in shops in Austria and Germany, as well as in a few places in Italy and Luxembourg.

I use it since one year. It works fine, but it could definitely use more attention, so that more shops start to accept it. What are your thoughts on that?
