The first of six programmes looks at the causes and tensions which led up to the bloody conflict of the Spanish Civil War by tracing the influences which culminated in the outbreak of conflict.

This is a really excellent and in depth series on the civil war in that old style of documentary that you only find in the 80's.

The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare defines hikikomori as a condition in which the affected individuals refuse to leave their parents' house, do not work or go to school and isolate themselves away from society and family in a single room for a period exceeding six months.[10] The psychiatrist Tamaki Saitō defines hikikomori as "a state that has become a problem by the late twenties, that involves cooping oneself up in one's own home and not participating in society for six months or longer, but that does not seem to have another psychological problem as its principal source

At the end of the 19th century, Chicago completely transformed the way Americans eat, and the Union Stockyards on the South Side were the center of that revolution. Experience the sights, sounds, and awful smells of the Union Stockyards and the complex of meat factories next to it, known as Packingtown.

Details how the Unions fought back against exploitation they faced in the meat industry.

An excellent documentary that examines the scale and underlying dynamics of multinational corporate expansion, and shows the deleterious social and economic effects of the multinationals' power in both the U.S. and the wider world. Includes interviews with several corporate executives and with workers in a small New England city faced with the threat of a runaway shop. Investigates the role of the multinationals in influencing U.S. government policy in underdeveloped nations.

This is followed by a discussion with a research scientist, John Valentine, with "Science for the People", who recounts his experiences and analyzes how private industry and universities collaborate in a preoccupation with profits at the expense of people.

Unfortunately this doc has mostly been forgotten to the ravages of time. This VHS copy was recorded from the 'Alternative Views' TV program, which broadcast it in 1980.

If you'd like to rent high definition copy of this film, California Newsreel will let you stream it sells it on vimeo for $3
