Are requests permitted here? (latte.isnot.coffee)

Been looking for a specific show for some time but can't seem to find it anywhere, but before making a specific request I'd check in with you first.

Couldn't find anything in the sidebar, but assuming everything is still a bit of a work in progress, I'd rather be on the safe side :-)

After rarbg went down, I got into a private torrent site. They expect everyone to maintain a certain ratio, which is reasonable, but there is actually no way to build ratio. The seed-to-download ratio is ridiculously high for all of the popular torrents, and new users aren't allowed to post their own torrents. (As a sidebar, normies seem to run the Internet now, so all of the most recent torrent offerings are bad network TV shows, Marvel movies, or equally unwatchable fare).

When I was on Demonoid during its heyday ~20ish years ago, the standard way to build ratio was to offer something for download that nobody has, allowing your ratio to grow by uploading to the first few initial seeders.

This is not possible anymore, at least on this private site. Is this normal, or is this private torrent site just stupid?

I'm mainly only using it for p2p, everything else is secondary. Portforwarding is necessary though.

Edit: Decided on AirVPN. It wasn't too pricy, only 2 dollars above my current Usenet + Indexer plan.

I'm in a dilemma, I think ownership of media is important, but the convenience of Spotify and the algorithm of new music that it suggests has helped me find amazing artists that I wouldn't have heard of otherwise.

Fellow sailors, what are your thoughts, and how do you personally listen to music?

Anyone got a good site, and how the invite system works for them?

God damnit! Another one bites the dust. Are there any new groups coming up behind the recent scene groups rarbg and now cakes? Like new rip groups? Do you all get the feeling that piracy is a shrinking pond?

Discuss, I guess. 🙃

So now that we've moved from Reddit, what's the stance on linking content? Or even discussing releases? Still a bad move?

I know it was stopped on Reddit due to the risk of the sub being taken down. But here there is no risk (for now) ?

I've sailed the high seas for a while starting with Emule, through MIRC, torrenting, mega(upload) and many more.

Lately I've been using a p4s service on plex but they kept having issues so I stopped it. I don't mind paying but I want

  • the latest episodes of my content as it comes out
  • great quality with little to no compression
  • english subtitles, original voice (whether english, japanese...)
  • 100% uptime.

I'm assuming my p4s service was not downloading new episodes by hand, so there must a (set of) OSS software to automatically download new episodes of a predefined set of TV shows / anime, add subtitles, and make it available as a plex server or similar no? I'm a software developer so not affraid to run a few docker containers on a local server

I can't afford my VPN this month. Normally I'd just grab stuff from nyaa but not this time.

E:Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up going with 9anime and it's super clean.

As the lemmy.ml admins expect a heavy load on their servers in the coming days, I've decided to run my own lemmy instance to be the dedicated forum for /r/piracy failover.

If you already have an account on lemmy.ml, you can continue using it by accessing the new community via https://lemmy.ml/c/piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com

You can also continue posting on this community as well, not going to stop anyone :D

  1. Saikou: IMO this is the best anime streaming app for Android. It supports multiple sources, subtitles, picture-in-picture and so much more. It is open source. You can also read manga on it!
  2. Aniyomi: Aniyomi is an unofficial fork of Tachiyomi, a dedicated manga reader. So you can stream anime and read manga from a single app. Like Saikou, Aniyomi supports multiple sources.
  3. Cloudstream: Cloudstreaming is a great streaming app which you can not only for streaming anime but also for watching thousands of TV shows and movies. The app also has features similar to the above mentioned apps but does not have a manga reader.

If you use any other anime streaming apps, please mention it by leaving a comment.

The reddit piracy community was in a neverending struggle to avoid being banned from the site, constantly censoring and restricting what people could post to keep the reddit admins happy. What's the situation with that sort of thing on lemmy? Is it a free for all? Same situation as back there? Something in between? I guess we may all find out together...

Heya, does anyone have recommendations for where to find ebooks, preferably in PDF format?

Huge bonus points for other languages than only English. Looking especially for German!

Thanks!
