when I’m logged in, a lot of communities are empty - but i can see loads of posts when logged out. does anyone know what the issue is?

Check the language settings in your profile settings. You probably deselected "unspecified" or "english".

But make sure you also have any languages you do speak (like English) selected. You'll need to hold down Ctrl or cmd while you click to select multiple

I found that my problem was "Show Read Posts" was deselected.
