To add: accept that you are going to have some loss to insects and other damage from living beings.
The permaculture ethics are: Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share. To me, fair share includes recognizing that many beings live where I am growing, and they are going to want some too!
Fair Share is easily the best way to look at it. When I start my garden I am looking at growing more than I realistically need to accommodate for this.
