A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Please don't post about US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

I really hope that the political communities don't devolve into just useless name calling.
What I like are the comments that discuss the nuances of politics. Why things happen the way they do and the strategies, OR even other people's takes on a topic.
What Reddit turned into was is an ass or is <Stupid/fascists/baby killers> Or is too old and stupid. Nothing of substance just writing the same thing someone else wrote in the last post. Got really boring.
That's not just Reddit, that's the way people view/discuss politics online these days, and to a lesser extent, offline too. It's bad, man. It's not just politics either, it is pretty much any social commentary, viewpoint, or ideology. You either support literally every single stance a given group takes or you're an enemy. This mindset is driving division, creating anger, and separating people in a way that will be extremely difficult to come back from. We're in big trouble as a society.
Yeah, but on the flip side.
We've entered some very dark times where the grey has disappeared from a lot of things and become stark black and white.
and enlightened centrism does nothing but spread the darkness.

That's what I liked about/r/asktrumpsupporters. I'm most definitely not a fan of him but good points were made that changed my mind on some things.
Do you remember any of those things? Anytime I've talked with trump supporters, they just say platitudes and never reference anything concrete...or that didn't blow up in our faces later on.
