But they do not rule others with an iron fist. At least not any dog I've wanted to be around would. In that way they're usually about as unlike an authoritarian as you can get.
Edit: the more I think about it, the more "authoritarian" seems to exclusively mean "in favor of using authority over others" which is unrelated to "accepts authority"
One of the definitions of authoritarian is characterized by or favoring obedience. That being said, I'm just making a joke and I'm way to sober right now to properly debate this.
haha yeah, you are right about it being "one of" the definitions. I think traditionally though saying "authoritarian" is much more about how one would apply their ideas to others. Accepting the authority only comes as a consequence of a desire to rule over others.
