When a city holds a Trump rally and then he doesn't pay, that is the city government misappropriating tax revenue and directing it to their preferred candidate. It is not the city residents being dumb, it is the city government being corrupt.
And it's surely the way Trump himself understands this. As we learned today, he keeps tabs on who's on his side like the Mafia boss he is. The cities that dare ask him payment will be punished when he gets the occasion.
Grand Rapids isn’t a conservative city government. A lot of the surrounding area is, but GR itself isn’t. We just have the biggest arena around, so all the MAGAts come from all over West Michigan.
The city can’t stop him from campaigning here, they can’t go to the Van Andel arena and say, “No, you aren’t allowed to let Trump in.” They can just charge his campaign for any services provided, and then get shafted when he doesn’t pay.
So can you explain why they aren't trying to take Trump to court over unpaid fees? Also, why couldn't they could have demanded an upfront payment? Go to the arena and say "he has to pay first or he isn't allowed in"
He may have paid the arena upfront, or they got points on sales. The costs to the city are TBD until after the event. The arena booked him, city couldn't really say no.
I guess they could have tried to get him to hold some money in escrow, like they overcharge your credit card at a hotel to later refund part of it, but I've never heard of this model in this situation.
And take Trump to court? Yeah that's working out great. One woman he raped won and nobody is allowed to say he raped her now. Fantastic record there.
