Edit: Just to clarify, my stance here is not "ignore everything Trump." He has done and will do quite a lot of things that warrant attention and concern. He's also a serial liar and world class bullshitter. A human testament to the phrase, "actions speak louder than words." Donald Trump's political success has always hinged on the fact that people are quick to forget that. He's already working overtime to distract from the fact that the majority of his campaign promises were just lies and the sooner he can make the people who voted for him forget all the pie in the sky shit they were promised, the better.

I've blocked all US magazines and other social media channels I can, and I'm so much better for it.

When the moron actually invades Canada I'm sure I'll hear about it in the news.

And, frankly, this magazine is on notice. If it starts being 100% US politics it's getting blocked as well. I have zero regrets about this new policy I'm implementing.

frankly, this magazine is on notice

Um, what are you talking about?

Kbin/Mbin folks sometimes call communities magazines. They're threatening to block this comm.

We can’t afford it. Your nation provides 90% of the electricity we consume and 60% of the crude oil we refine. We need your partnership more than he’ll ever admit, especially now that our grid is regionally strained by AI and EV adoption.

That is completely false. In 2023 the US generated 4257 TWh compared to Canada's 615 TWh. The US only had a net import of 19 TWh

You’re right. The source I used was from 2022, and we imported nearly a third of that in 2024.

Regardless, we need them more than Trump will admit.

Is the concept of invasion not clear?

You don't have to ask once you invaded.

Sure this is an unlikely scenario but saying Donald can't afford to lose a partnership by invading an allied country is not understanding the problem.

[-] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I’m referring to adverse diplomatic action. Invasion comes with its own set of financial consequences in the form of tariffs from NATO countries.

You say this like someone is going to change their behavior based on it. No one at all has regrets about you choosing to exercise the block early block often ethos of the fediverse. I salute your decision to control your own feed.

I'm sorry our politics is everywhere (sincerely) - I'm not going to stop talking about it though.
