They should add Searx to the list of search providers.

If you have an account on Mastodon, you can just write them a private message and suggest it. I did it multiple times in the past and they are always happy to add new services.

I do not. I tried their 'Chat' in the bottom right corner and got a message saying they were busy or something.

Or host a own instance with yacy p2p search engine

You can do that with Searx too, or if you're not able to you can pick one of the EU hosted Searx sites from searx.space

[–] IceFoxX@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh with searx you can also host an instance yourself, thanks for the info, I didn't know that.

Yes you can, and it can be private or public, your choice.

Documentation is here

Below is the correct documentation, my previous link is the old version.

Also, there are official Docker containers (amd64, arm v7 and arm64/v8) and a quick start repository to set it up via Docker, of you prefer that to the native installation.

Edit: I know that I linked searxng instead of searx, but since searx was archived on GitHub 1.5 years ago, you shouldn't really run it anymore

Oh, thanks, good catch. I knew that and still biffed it. Will edit my post
