I want to switch from Proton and am looking at Mailbox.org. (This is probably not exclusive to Mailbox.org.) Alias are limited with Mailbox.org, which I'm not a fan of. But extensions can be used as well. Although they don't seem as anonymous as aliases? Can someone give their perspective on this?

Would you mind telling me why? Just checking if there's something I don't know since my proton subscription is about to be renewed ๐Ÿ˜„

Many of the recent switches to other services are probably inspired by their CEO turning out to be a Trump support. After being called out several times, they doubled down and reaffirmed their alignment with some of Trump's recent decisions. I think the biggest problem with this is that a company based in Switzerland shouldn't openly show their interest in foreign politics - especially so when it's sympathising with a fascist (government) and via Proton's official Twitter account no less.

Plus, they dropped their Mastodon account after getting "bullied" off it by Fediverse users, which some people didn't like either.

I haven't switched myself either since I switched to Proton a couple months ago myself and don't want to deal with changing my address for numerous services all over again, but I'm not paying for their services right now, so I'm not in a hurry. Not sure if this is inconsequential, but that's how it is right now.

Personally I find Proton too expensive to me, and my threat model is okay with not having Proton-level encryption
