Minecraft has stayed amazingly unshitified. Microsoft took two paths for Minecraft. They kept and updated the open Java version and developed a completely separate enshitified version that nevertheless can interact with the Java version using free open source server software.
If all products were done this way, the world would be a better place.
Requiring you to register with a real phone number, bothering you with logging in globally, linking your minecraft account to your entire windows PC (thank God for Linux), and introducing special features in a microtransaction-riddled version of the game is just the early middle stage of enshittification. Next comes removal of old features as more players switch to bedrock to enjoy the new special features.
The Java edition is in the middle of being phased out. They've only kept it for this long because bedrock is inferior and unplayable on most devices. It may look like Microsoft kept it out of kindness, but I assure you it will be gone soon.
Java version will never be phased out. The entire modding community is built on it. If java version dies, the community dies. Leaving microsoft with nothing but fortnite kids.
They have been releasing updates with new features to the Java version every 3 months.
It's been 11 years dude.
MS eventually ruins everything. But Minecraft has lasted unshitified longer than some open source projects. I'm not going to stop using Jellyfin just because in 20 years it will turn into Plex.
