Tesla faces a proposed class action claiming it speeds up odometers on its electric vehicles so they fall out of warranty faster, saving Elon Musk's company from having to pay for repairs.

The plaintiff Nyree Hinton alleged that Tesla odometer readings reflect energy consumption, driver behavior and "predictive algorithms" rather than actual mileage driven.

He said the odometer on the 2020 Model Y he bought in December 2022 with 36,772 miles on the clock ran at least 15% fast, based on his other vehicles and driving history, and for a while said he drove 72 miles a day when at most he drove 20.

Remember when VW fudged their environmental numbers a bit and it was a giant shit show that cost the company billions? I'm sure Tesla will go through the same thing right? right?

The people who care about such things as honesty or quality have already abandoned Tesla. The people who still wants to buy a Tesla, either still think it's a status symbol like an Iphone in 2009, or they absolutely love being abused by a rich cunt.

It's not going to matter for them at all.

3rd option: they don't give a fuck. The most common answer I have around me about why they still have a Tesla is operating cost. They're going to get a new car every 3-5 years regardless.

I will put those people into the "status symbol" group.

They may not give a fuck about the politics, the quality issues or being lied to, but they still want a Tesla for a reason. They could save money by buying a different car that performs equally or better. So they don't buy it because of the price.

With no other incentive it leads me to the conclusion they want it because they think it makes them look "better" than everyone who doesn't have one.

They're an American company. So obviously not silly. Unless they get acquired by a foreign company, then it's payday (see Monsanto).

Or GM with their broken ignition locks that killed countless people and ruined people's lifes
