Just 10 years ago the US was still seen as being progressive and racism was slowly becoming a thing of the past... and not even in 10 years all the major civil rights achievements of rhe past 70 years are being thrown out so fast it is making my head spin.

except that was due to extenuating circumstances, the 08 recession, if that had not happen, obama wouldve never won.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

Well don't worry, there is another recession coming...

Neither Mexico, Netherlands nor Japan have ever had a black president.

The reason is clear. The USA is better. We have all sorts of religions and cultures living together in neighborhoods. Sometimes like in Texas, those neighborhoods are silos and people do tend to stick to their own background. But 2nd gen usually intermingles and becomes part of the melting pot. Its a thing. Hopefully it never stops being a thing.

Why would countries with a much, much smaller black population percentage than the US have a black president? Not to mention that the Netherlands and Japan have a prime minister as the head of government, not a president.

Okay.... Let's have a fun contest! Who can tell me why we have black, Hispanic, Asian and such people in the US, but other countries only have whoever lived there. Do mention slavery, railroads, trade routes and poverty. Go! I'll give you 5 minutes!

...you do know the reason that the US has a large black population right?

I'm Canadian and not shading on diversity at all but just because we have a lot of different cultures mixing together doesn't make anyone 'better'. There are reasons we are as diverse as we are, and most of those reasons are historically very, very bad.
