Those American bathroom stall gaps are wild.
I think American stalls are designed that way specifically to make them less private in the hopes it will keep people from boning or doing drugs in them. Just another facet of American life made worse with puritanical/punitive culture.
You'd think after a lifetime of not actually working in that regard we'd just use a normal fucking door. 🤷🏻♂️
Also, FunFact: if you enter a bathroom in the US and the lighting is really blue: that literally is to stop drug use. Veins are blue, and if the lighting is blue you can't see them well enough to shoot up.
The blue light also doesn't work. Junkies figured out how to turn on the cell phone flash light.
How do you tie off your arm, light the spoon, fill the syringe and inject yourself while also holding your phone?

I'm from Europe and I always assumed that America does that, because it's the cheapest option by far.
Oh it's not just that, though that is perhaps part of it and is often the excuse. I think it goes deeper and way more psycho-sexual than that.
Call it puritanical but why would you want people banging and shooting up in the washroom?
That's not the point. If someone is gonna fuck or shoot up in the bathroom they're going to. The little perv gap we have isn't gonna change that.
Puritan ideas themselves aren't really about helping people to be more "pure". They're about subjugation, control, and maintaining a patriarchal structure.

We're lucky they even have doors, half the schools I went to in conservative towns ripped them off to 'keep kids from smoking' in the bathrooms.
I think they just have a fetish for watching people shit.
I'd literally rather my kid start smoking then have some adult watch them take a shit.

I've been formulating an essay for a long time now about how American bathroom design - At least men's rooms, as I'm a man - Is proto-fascist homoerotic cultural enforcement, how it relates to the butt-slapping genital pranks of cis sports locker rooms or the blackmail-generating hazing of fraternal societies, and the extremely suspect fact that in our individualized and privatized society stripped bare of spaces for intimate social interaction, the one place that we are in fact forced to interact on an intimate and revealing level is also the one spot that is supposed to be the most private and individual. I also want to explore how it possibly relates to circumcision, in that both things seem to be the society asserting the ownership of one's gender in a coercive fashion, as if to lock the individual into their role in the society and remind them of that fact every time they'd seek to be alone with themselves.
American bathrooms are an insane psychological knot.
