The atrocities committed by people under the flag of every religion there is saddens me, though.

[–] rumimevlevi 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

The urss was not religious it was atheist they still killed 1.5 millions afghani

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 0 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, people are shitty, religion doesn’t fix that.

[–] rumimevlevi 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

If you want to critisize religion go for it, create posts about it. Don't come here making it look like the conflict is all about religion. It's about one state occupying another. Ben gurion the first prime minister was secular he still killed and oppressed palestinians. Most zionists use the argument of ancestral right not religious right. Just because palestinians are generally religious don't mean you can't support the right for freedom

@rumimevlevi The whole 'ancestral right' argument is self-serving hooey, even though many people believe it (though I often wonder how much). The Levant is the first place our prehistoric ancestors came through after leaving Africa 60-70 kya, and have been living there -- and fighting over it -- ever since. Semitic peoples came along perhaps 50 ky later. It's ludicrous for anyone alive now or even in the last 5 ky to claim any ancestral right to that area.

I completely agree with you. I'm just saying that the biggest issue in the conflict and Israel occupation of Palestine is not simply religious extremism. I heard more people using the ancestry argument than the religious argument

How are they different to the atrocities committed without religion being involved?

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world -1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

The false righteousness and a cult of accepting it as good or being ostracized, otherwise it’s the exact same, because religion doesn't improve things, it only gives a false sense of justification to commit attrocity.

“Accepting it as good or being ostracised”

This is just wrong.
