hexbear comment sections are so confusing. I'm still trying to grapple if the pro CCP, pro Russia sentiments are ironic. like, you can't be for human rights and also dick ride imperialists with human rights violations throughout the last decade, right?
I feel like the human rights violations in Russia and China have been going way longer than a decade.
for sure, they have. it's just usually for defenders of jingoism they tend to have the awareness to pick empires whose bloodshed has at least dried for a couple years. or got swept a little further under the rug. you know, with some discretion. let alone why someone would support an empire at all
I have found assuming that the standard tankie position is more about opposing America / the West than anything else is a very reliable explanation. Everything else is secondary to that. Support Russia not because it does anything good but because it does things America doesn't like
It's a little bit like Trump voters, because he promised he would go against "the establishment".
They aren't from the West, I can guarantee you that. I've never met someone outside of China thinking calling Xi Jingping Winnie the Pooh was racist.
That's been unchanged since that first occurred. When I played that Eve Online mobile game, "Winnie the Pooh" itself was censored.
They have a very specific dialogue that isn't based on logic just what the CCP allows.
wait, is it like the r/sino community from reddit who were like CCP employees but who post in english? what is even the point in that?
Yes. It's that exactly.
I... Don't know. I think it's some form of authorized "engagement" with western culture or a means to talk with Chinese abroad about western topics in an authorized manner?
It could be an attempt at influencing vulnerable minded westerners?
I'm not sure because most of the stuff is so... Obviously not from any English majority speaking country in the slightest. They throw around "liberal" as an insult to any political discussion, which makes even less sense.
if that's the case I can see how it works. I'm an anarchist and nearly joined that instance myself for the anti western sentiments. I didn't get second thoughts until I saw the CCP shit and the hyper theatrical way they combat people in comment sections. Like, as a rule they're all doing a weird grandiose combat sport. Maybe there are people like me, but who went all in because it feels nice to feel like they're finally dominating an argument for once since 2015.
Their interpretation of liberal is actually correct but in an archaic way and ignoring the shift of the Overton window over the centuries. So it gets lost in translation to anyone who isn't familiar with Locke and the Enlightenment period. So basically useless.
