My inner conspiracy theorist is telling me that someone at the DoD described climate change as a national security threat that the department needs to address as part of handling defence and that's what triggered this
Seems plausible. Just judging on his public statements though, this is likely related to his comments during the Zelensky visit on canceling elections during wartime.
God dammit. Stop being right. Ugh. How is this asshole in this position??? He tells us the quiet part out loud. He tells us he's going to do absolutely dumb shit. Then he does dumb shit. And people see him do that dumb shit. And everyone is surprised he did the thing he said he was going to do.
He says he'll do awful shit. And everyone dismisses it, because nobody would be THAT bad, right?
I mean, he told he was going to do it if you gave him power. Then he was given power. Why are you surprised he's doing the dumb shit?

That’s my guess too. Claim he can cancel elections during wartime, rename it to the DOW, and then point at the DOW and say we’re at war so he can cancel the election.
