The neolibs are too far right. The tankies are doing whatever that is. Where's the space for the people who want fully-automated-luxury-gay-space-communism, but realize that it's gonna take a while and there are lots of steps between now and then? Here. This is that space.

Here, people should endeavor to discuss and devise practical, actionable leftist action. Vote lesser evil while you build grassroots coalitions. Unionize your workplace. Participate in SRAs. Build cohesion your local community. Educate the proletariat.

This is a place for practical people to develop practical plans to implement stable, incremental improvement.

If you're dead-set on drumming up all 18,453 True Leftists® into spontaneous Revolution, go somewhere else. The grown ups are talking.

Rules:

-1. Don't be a dick. Racism, sexism, other assorted bigotries, you know the drill. At least try to default to mutually respectful discussion. We're all on the same side here, unless you aren't, in which case kindly leave.

-2. Don't be a tankie. Yes I'm sure you have an extensive knowledge of century-old theory. There's been a century of history since then. Things didn't shake out as expected, maybe consider the possibility that a different angle of attack might be more effective in light of new data.

-3. Be practical. No one on the left benefits from counterproductive actions. This is a space informed by, not enslaved to, ideology. Promoting actions that are fundamentally untenable in the system in question, because they fulfill a sense of ideological purity, is a bad look. Don't do that.

This is true.

At the same time, the percentage of the electorate that didn't vote for Harris for left-purity reasons was significantly larger than her margin of loss, and, for that matter, is continually denied as a problem here on Lemmy.

No one on fucking Lemmy needs to be told about the larger issue - that some 75 million fuckwits in America are far-right fascists. Lemmy, of all fucking places, knows that. But a significant contingent on Lemmy still denies that left-purism is a problem when it was quite literally one of the key failures which led directly to fascism being elected in the US.

It was not the top key failure. There were half-a-dozen larger failure points that damned us. But any one of those key failures, left-purists included, not screwing the pooch would have prevented fascism - the way that some leftists on Lemmy refuse to acknowledge the seriousness of this in favor of chest-beating over how moral it is to welcome in fascism to teach 'the libs' a lesson is something that should be emphatically condemned.

If you’re condemning it over those other several significant causes, causes of which some have MUCH easier avenues to success than getting EVERY leftist to vote for a still shitty candidate, then you are being just as fucking stupid as the Democrats.

Wouldn't even have taken half of those who voted in 2020 but abstained for left-purity reasons in 2024. But sure, tell me more about how Lemmy is the avenue through which one should convince the DNC to be less stupid. It's much easier to convince the DNC, whose members are very prominent on Lemmy, to be less stupid than leftists, who are barely on Lemmy at all.

Focusing on topics that will make the left exacerbate wedge issues and in-fighting is EXACTLY why many didn’t vote for Harris.

"Please oppose the fascist" is the REAL wedge issue which causes left in-fighting, of course. Nothing quite divides leftists like the concept of opposing literal fucking fascists. Unironically, it would seem, since you seem determined to asspat everyone involved in giving fascists a free pass to the levers of power in the government.

Why do you want to practice ineffectual infighting instead of creating more attractive choices?

I voted and campaigned for Bernie twice. I support progressives locally and in my state. I want and work for more attractive choices - but when push comes to shove, if you're willing to maximize the number of marginalized groups to be murdered by fascists, or play apologist for those who do so, you aren't an ally. You're playing masturbatory games with your circlejerk over how self-righteous you can be.
