Gavin Newsom is a PoS just like Donny. American democrats will do anything aside from fight against Trump's fascist regime.

All they can muster is some tweets.

[–] strung6387@lemmy.ml 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I'd argue the opposite: satire and humor are the best way to get people on your side and motivated.

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world -1 points 19 hours ago

What's the joke here then? Cause it isn't funny.

[–] danny801@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (3 children)

In all likelihood, he's going to be running for President against Trump in 2028, what are some reasons that I shouldn't I vote for Newsom?

[–] limer@lemmy.ml 7 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I suppose Newsom may win the presidency in 2028, and then caretake the country while doing the minimum for 4 to 8 years.

Just in time for another gop to win after that, and drive the USA to the brink of ruin even more than Trump

Back and forth. Same pattern the last two decades or more

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 0 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Thing is once Trump's gone the GOP will be in crisis. The movement is not about ideals but the man himself

[–] limer@lemmy.ml 5 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Fascist movements do not end when a leader goes.

And while the gop will be splintered, they will coalesce, eventually, in time to elect someone we will curse in the 2030s

[–] DigitalAudio@sopuli.xyz 1 points 18 hours ago

Depends on when the leader dies and how the movement splinters.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works -1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Because Germany famously remained Nazis after Hitler killed himself.

There was that other thing at about the same time ..uhhh.. oh yes - losing the war..which may have had something to do with it.

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I would back a progressive candidate as hard as you can in the primary if possible.

Newsom has a similar vibe problem as Harris where people outside of California don’t really know them or like them much.

Personally I say fuck anyone from CA or NY (except AOC) we need a candidate from somewhere else more down to earth.

[–] medgremlin@midwest.social 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

If the options in November 2028 come down to Newsom vs Trump (or whoever is his puppet), I'm still voting for Newsom. I won't be happy about it, but if we can't get a real progressive through the primaries, I'm still voting against the GOP and for the non-GOP candidate with the best chance of winning.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 3 points 19 hours ago

If the dems think a conservative candidate win, they will ratfuck progressives again, which is how we got Trump both times.

We need to make it absolutely clear that under no circumstances can the DNC let a conservative win the primary because they will lose the general. We did "yes, we know he sucks, but this is the most important election ever" with Biden, and he showed an entire generation that the dems are not an effective means to enacting positive social change, giving us back Trump.

[–] Lyrl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 20 hours ago

Are there any progressives you are hoping will run? I'm not familiar with most politicians, would be helpful to know who's worth learning more about.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

He platforms Charlie Kirk on his podcast, and his record for how he treats policy in relation to prisons is pretty shit. In 2022 he vetoed a bill that would end indefinite solitary confinement because, ya know, that makes sense. He’s a self-important loud-mouth who’s doing funny things in regards to attack Trump but absolutely is not what the US needs right now. They to yank that needle to the left and all they’re being offered is centrists and conservatives who don’t like to stir the pot even while fascism is fully present in their country.

[–] zonnewin@feddit.nl -1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Be realistic. A leftist has no chance to get elected in the USA. A centrist is the best you can do.

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago

Is that why Zohran Mamdani has been blowing every centrist in New York out of the water?

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Just like Donny.

You’ve got to be kidding me. I grew up in California during Newsom and Harris’ rise to power.

As uninspiring as they are, this approach has highlighted Trump’s ridiculous communication style in a way that has not been challenged to date.

We can dive into actual policy if you want.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nobody has challenged Trump's communication style before? Really??

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A sitting governor doing carbon copy satire of Trump’s exact style? No that has not been done before to my knowledge.

[–] vala@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why in gods name would we need this? How is this helping? Can we not just be fucking serious for a second here?

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 6 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Y'all were serious and Trump got elected via memes in 2016 lol

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, 4chan was the swing vote.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 1 points 19 hours ago

The_donald tho.

[–] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 2 points 20 hours ago

Because being a sane adult isn't a winning proposition since people who vote are also idiots?

Trying to go high and be an adult has accomplished exactly dick in 10 years.

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He's a transphobe that would gladly put homeless people in a woodchipper.

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Agreed that sicking the cops on homeless people is bad policy, and doing that in response to a court ruling without plan to actually help people is egregious. Does seem like he took an opportunity to disguise a NIMBY directive behind a court ruling.

Transphobe though? What he diverges on the specific issue of trans women/girls in gender protected sports divisions and we just have to throw out everything else he’s supported or signed laws for trans and gay rights in the last 20 years?

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 2 points 19 hours ago

The thing is Transpeople in Sports is a distraction and by humoring it as a real issue he is playing to the cons

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

He literally invited Charlie Kirk to his podcast and agreed with him about transgender ideology being a problem. That's clear cut transphobia.
