CNN asked Miller whether the Trump Administration will abide by a district judge’s order blocking the Guard’s deployment in Oregon. “Well, the Administration filed an appeal this morning with the Ninth Circuit,” Miller began. “I would note the Administration won an identical case in the Ninth Circuit just a few months ago with respect to the federalizing of the California National Guard.”

Then, Miller said: “Under Title 10 of the U.S. Code, the President has plenary authority, has—” before making an abrupt stop. Miller blinked several times, with anchor Boris Sanchez calling out his name, though he still did not respond.

A plenary power or plenary authority is a complete and absolute power to take action on a particular issue, with no limitations.

The executive is a co-equal branch of government. We don't do kings here. We kill kings.

We also kill Nazis. Per long tradition. We don't debate them. We don't platform them. Nazis are guilt free kills. Don't even count as human.

[–] Sideshow_B00b@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 hours ago

But.. but.. ”zey vere just folloving orders”

Punch-a-nazi would be a great substitute for whack-a-mole BTW

[–] verdi@feddit.org 6 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

That's the story you've been told, it is in fact false. You save and help Nazis flee prosecution and the only kings you ever killed were the original inhabitants of America that you genocided in your manifest destiny.

No amount of chest thumping is going to erase the fact you're already living in the 4th reich and the best you can do about it is shoot some random blogger in the neck. And then you have the gall to ridicule the French...

edit: Like someone mentioned below, the only king you killed was MLK.

[–] Ging@anarchist.nexus 170 points 1 day ago (2 children)

We have never killed kings here. We also stayed out of Nazi affairs for many years. The sentiment is nice, but more than misleading. You got weird history books anon

[–] DaMummy@lemmy.world 103 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Not only that, but we also support most dictatorships around the world, we fund genocide, overthrow democratically elected governments, and assassinate people like Lincoln, JFK, & MLK.

[–] fascicle@leminal.space 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh shoot you're right, I guess we should all relax and get back to work

[–] FunctionallyLiterate@lemmy.ca 3 points 16 hours ago

THAT'S the spirit!!

[–] Ging@anarchist.nexus 3 points 1 day ago

I thought that's what I read, thanks for the reality check

[–] hume_lemmy@lemmy.ca 65 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Maybe he meant Martin Luther King?

He wasn't killed... barely.

[–] Ging@anarchist.nexus 3 points 1 day ago

I thought these words exactly but felt they may be too harsh lol

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (16 children)

Don't even count as human.

... People can be evil (and even deserve execution) without dehumanizing them. You know, the exact thing we hate them for doing?

[–] pahlimur@lemmy.world 12 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

People calling you a nazi sympathizer don't know that most people who actively participated as members of the German nazi party were 'normal' people. They lived normal lives, followed the law, and existed in normal society. In reality, most people supporting our current nazi problems will need to be deprogrammed and forcibly pulled back into an accepting society. Its what happened in Germany, not many nazis were charged with crimes.

[–] SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works 4 points 20 hours ago

Similar shit happened in Indonesia after the genocide. People had to go back to being neighbours with somewhat typical people who were former state sanctioned serial killers and enablers. Germany tried to deprogram the youth in the '50s, but yeah. Didn’t stick, for various reasons. Harsh reality.

Still, no society has recovered from fascist or similar regimes without at least some targeted pruning of the tree of life. Putin SHOULD obsess about what happened to Gaddafi and the like. Society has to remember or, well, here we are again.

Nah, Nazis are inhuman garbage

[–] SparroHawc@lemmy.zip 20 points 1 day ago

Nazis are human garbage.

As humans, they have human rights... But they also should be punished for their violations of human rights. The law, as it currently stands, is not fulfilling its purpose of punishing bad actions. Thus, it is up to us to punish them.

Punch a Nazi today!

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

They love that you say this.

We don't do kings here. We kill kings.

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 64 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Literally never killed a king in their history. The closest they got was killing aboriginal chieftains. Muricans just got salty because the King of England refused to let them colonize the native tribes in the great lakes region (which the crown had declared a self-governing protectorate). Americans declared a revolution and cloaked it in jingoistic hoopla about liberty. They also tried (and failed) to enlist Quebec to join them.

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Wait wait wait. The Brits were the good guys (in this one, very specific, instance)?

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Broken clock, etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Proclamation_of_1763

[Historians] have argued that colonial resentment of the proclamation contributed to the growing divide between the colonies and the mother country. Some historians say that even though the boundary was pushed west in subsequent treaties, the British government refused to permit new colonial settlements for fear of instigating a war with Native Americans, which angered colonial land speculators.

[–] Barbarian@sh.itjust.works 6 points 16 hours ago

Not the only time. Another example is the West Africa Squadron, where a small part of the British Navy tried to block all slave traffic coming out of West Africa.

The UK has done some insanely horrific things, but it does have some legitimate bright spots in there.

[–] voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 1 day ago

Hey to be fair the US government has killed 1 king in their history, it was just MLK..

[–] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Love it. Sincerely I do.

American: kill kings!

European: amateurs.

Lol.

[–] Sibshops@lemmy.myserv.one 38 points 1 day ago

I know a lot of other social medias censor this idea, but throughout history, a lot of human rights only came about when people rose up to defend it.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 24 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

I know that Americans will push back eventually, and I'vegot faith but, but the rest of the world is watching and wondering why you haven't yet.

[–] voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 1 day ago

We are pushing back, it's just the US is far more spread out then European countries and protests are purposely not being covered in mainstream media. Not to say we couldn't be better or doing more.

[–] rozodru@piefed.social 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"our country is too big and no one is leading us"

That's it. That's the reason. According to Americans on Lemmy/PieFed/Mastodon/Reddit is the drive to DC is too long. Regardless of where you live. Live in New York? it's a long drive. California? it's a very long drive. Maryland? way too long. Also unlike other countries Americans need a schedule and a specific time and date to do it. Other countries will just hit the streets with no planning, no times or dates, they just know something bad is happening and will leave their homes and protest. Americans don't do that. they NEED someone else to organize for them to tell them something bad is happening and to let everyone know about it on this specific date,at this specific time and to please register online to confirm your attendance.

The actual answer? deep down, the vast majority of americans simply don't care.

[–] FirstCircle@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

And don't forget, the "doing something" has to be fun and entertaining and kid-friendly and there needs to be a convenient Starbucks nearby. Warm & sunny too, because who wants to be uncomfortable outside "doing something?"

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Rest of the world: Why haven't you started the bloodiest civil war killing the most Americans of any conflict ever since the last one?

Americans:

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 7 points 1 day ago

Not enough people are starving

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

The US has put or helped keep more kings in power than they have taken out of power. Also, I would like to point out that King George III did not die in the American revolutionary war.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

We kill kings.

Are you in France? The last king killed by his own subjects was French king King Louis XVI. After that it was probably Tsar Nicholas II of Russia if you count him as a king. America sought independence from monarchy and never took the war to Britain.

I get what you're saying, but I think the whole "mindless, indiscriminate killing of people against us" narrative fits far better with people who fasten political flags to the beds of their pickup trucks and collect guns so they can shoot democrats alongside Jesus come Armageddon day.

It's not that I think there shouldn't be capital punishment for heinous actions, but with both political sides calling each other "nazis" and the right saying the left is violent while ramping up violence, we have to be better about rhetoric and the chance for ambiguity. Lets get better.

The French killed kings and nazis. The British killed kings and nazis. The Polish killed kings and nazis. The Russian killed kings and nazis. And replaced their king with fucking Stalin. The Canadians rebelled and won against a king(winning the right to create their own government) and killed nazis. (You get the idea)

The US was tricked by their upper class into rebelling, and then replaced the king with a pseudo-king. The US started WW2 helping the Nazis

[–] AreaKode@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

The intolerance will be met with equal intolerance.

[–] confusedbytheBasics@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Nazis are certainly human. Not disagreing with the rest of your statements but denying reality doesn't help anything.

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 6 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

People who refuse to relinquish Nazism need to be publicly hanged. Nazism is intentionally harmful.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Did you even read that?
