It’s amazing to me that there are genuinely this many white nationalists/nazis irl. I honestly had no clue people were this awful and prevalent.
I’ve never seen people more openly willing to hate other humans based on race, gender or sex.
Why do we get to exist as a species if we are this toxic to ourselves?
Hating and differentiating people based on race is pretty rational as long as you believe race is a real thing. That's kinda why it's called race-ism.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism
I'll grant "differentiating", sure, but hating? Hard disagree.
People end up hating/rationalizing people being bad because they believe they believe people are different races.
There's a big difference between something being rational and being able to rationalize it.
Indeed.
Race is a thing. It is a social construct, but it's a thing.
There is only one race: the human race.
Everything else are variations.
(Not counting other species of course)
Ok, but that doesn't mean that the concept of race doesn't exist in the minds of most humans. Unfortunately.
Exactly - just because a thing is a social construct, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or that it somehow doesn’t affect people in real ways.
Racism is a real thing. Culture is real. Nationality is real. Ethnic heritage is real.
But race is not, in the same way that my made up category of "things that i think are bad" is not real. Yes, it exists, I guess for some people. But as a universal concept that is solidly definable, no.
Wanna try? Define me a race.
People are very very awful. The internet reveals their true selves. That’s why Ultron wanted to end humanity.
Not necessarily, I dont wanna be that guy but I was joining in with the edgy racist shite on 4chan about 15 years ago because I thought it was all humour. Its possible a lot of these are just edgy teens thinking its all japes. I mean if its not, fuck them right off, but there's still hope that theres not as many truly awful people as might seem.
I gave up on 4chan when I started realising it looked like I was the only one laughing.
See, the thing is, though, this stuff is poison. It's locker room bs at first, but, fundamentally it's tribalism and deviancy division between in-groups and out-groups.
The more you dig and learn about psychology, sociology, and history, the more you ☹️ because you realize.... It's us.
My partner and I were just talking about deviancy theory earlier today, and were discussing whether or not technology has moved too fast. Yes = our brains are lizards and the internet is amplifying our current weaknesses as a species. No = ?
Yes, but THIS prevelant in real life was a suprise.
We do give them a lot of attention. We should but we also need to remember how badly they see out numbered
Many of them are Bandwagoners desperate for any attention. They know they will get it if they call themselves MAGA and are willing to do whatever it takes to fit in. Even if it is takes being a Nazi. Even if they are not of Nazi blood or heritage. So many that align themselves with MAGA Nazis now will be the first the put on trains if given the chance.
We might very well be solving that problem ourselves right now.
