The other day my sister-in-law used the word "mansplaining". My mother asked what that meant and I started to tell her before I even realized what I was doing.
That's not mansplaining, that's just explaining. Mansplaining is when you explain stuff to a woman you wouldn't explain if a man was in their place. I.e. you start explaining car stuff to a female mechanic.
According to social media, mansplaining is any occurrence of a man explaining anything to anyone. Which makes sense I guess, I mean you can hear it in the name. But they fail to explain why we need to create gendered verbs. I thought gendered nouns (fireman etc) were already considered a problem.
Yeah well, nobody uses "mansplaining" that way unless they are insane. It has a specific meaning - which is a very annoying thing to experience. So unless someone considers every information attained from a man as "annoying", "explaining" works well for that.
I understand what you say it means, but obviously it's not "nobody".
He did qualify it with "unless they are insane"
Leave it to the internet people to get hung up on a single word...
A single word can make an enormous difference
