Over the past week or two, I've been discussing merging this community with c/world. The intents and purposes of both of these communities are essentially the same, and we don't really see a reason to divide that community rather than just put it all under one roof.

We're open to any and all opinions on this, and nothing is set in stone so please feel free to reply candidly.

Please speak up especially if you feel like:

  1. You wouldn't like this for really any reason

  2. You feel this community already serves a different purpose

  3. You feel this community could serve a different purpose, and include what changes you'd like to see to meet that goal.

I work with the head mod of c/world, @YoBuckStopsHere@lemmy.world, on c/NFL and talk to him regularly, we're both pretty much on the same page about everything and moderate communities in a similar manner, so if your only reservation would be possible stricter or different moderation, I hope that alleviates some of the concern. All of the mods from here would also be welcome to join over there if we do merge.

I’ve been banned twice in c/world because one of the mods doesn’t like my political views, so I vote no. They want an echo chamber, and that’s not how political news works.

Edit: YoBucksStopsHere and JordanLund are great people. It’s not them.

May I ask when you were banned? Because YoBuckStopsHere only recently became the owner of the community, it may have been the prior mods/owners that did it.

They want an echo chamber, and that’s not how political news works.

I whole heartedly agree.

It was 2 days ago. They weren’t the mod when it happened. To be fair, it was technically bannable. But removing the post would have been sufficient.

I usually don't ban anyone unless they give us no choice. While I don't agree with everyone's perspective, I respect it. Everyone is invited to their opinion as long as it doesn't violate the TOS or community rules.

TB, I think that ban has passed BTW. Should be the standard 3 day deal.

It’s fine. It helped me to adjust my posting. I think it was just the knee jerk ban that miffed me, with no warning. But I also understand modding isn’t easy, and it’s easier to just stop things before they start.
