Community rules (click to expand)
1. Follow the site-wide rules
- Instance-wide TOS: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
- Lemmy code of conduct: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html
2. Be civil
- Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
- Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
- Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
- Bigotry will not be tolerated.
- These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
3. Post Linux-related content
- Including Unix and BSD.
- Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of
sudo
in Windows.
- No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
4. No recent reposts
- Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
Please report posts and comments that break these rules!
Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't fork-bomb your computer.

Actually, I went to a Yoko concert once... my gf bought the tickets, don't look at me like that, all wanted was p*ssy 😭.
You are on the internet, you can say pussy here
I think on the internet now you say earussy or something like that, something wikipedia
Kids these days
I think they are too much of one to do that.
Old habbits die hard 😁.
Even more pathetic.
And I didn't get p*ssy in the end either 😔.
Maybe she wanted someone who isn't scared to write pussy or just use a term they are comfortable to use.
Either commit to writing the crude word or just don't use it.
Whoa there you're being really aggressive right now, no need to be just a j*rk!!
Whoa so much toxicity, what's going on here?
I am jusy puzzled about the use of "p*ssy". Either write "pussy" or don't use the word at all of you too ashamed to write it in full.
Using an asterisk is neither here nor there, wouldn't you say?
A lot of us do it out of habit from commenting on stupid corporate sites that will shadow-hide "rude" or "vulgar" comments. Self -censoring on those platforms makes absolutely perfect sense, because it can be the difference between ACTUALLY posting a comment, and posting a comment that's instantly flagged for review and hidden.
Then you fucking ding-dongs come on Lemmy going, "WhY wOuLd AnYOnE dO tHaT?!" and vote them in to oblivion... Fucking losers voting something down just because you don't understand. THAT is truly the pathetic behavior on display here.
There's an argument to be made here that you shouldn't be using vulgar language when you know it'll be flagged. Just rephrase what you were saying. And if you feel you need to be vulgar in a place where it's not welcomed, it's probably not worth saying anyway.
Yoko - source of argument and contention for over four decades.
Nah, tacit denials of speech is not something we should accept. Arbitrary reasons should not be defended. Swearing is not something generally bad. Why are you even on Lemmy if you're OK with corporations controlling speech?
It's amazing. So many people on Lemmy, and still so many defending the exact practices that make Lemmy attractive since Lemmy don't do that...
If you wish to speak freely then do so. Don't censor yourself. Say what you want to say either with vulgarity or without. Don't pussyfoot around it by removing letters. Have some self-respect and either commit to saying it or rephrase.
Shit... all I said was pussy 😒 😂.
I haven't downvoted anyone in this thread. You know you can check that, please blow up at someone who did.
And again, in this case, just don't use rude words in the first place.
Comments saying “You don’t have to self-censor here” and downvotes when you do so are a signal. If the downvotes bother you, you can edit your comment. If they don’t bother you enough for you to make such a small effort, then it shouldn’t matter because downvotes don’t do anything - they don’t reduce visibility to your comment and Lemmy doesn’t have a karma system.
If someone else who would’ve done the same thing sees the downvotes and the comments chiding you, then optimally they’ll realize they shouldn’t do the same thing in the future.
Which part of this do you think is a problem?
The promotion of assuming motivation is the problem. The judgement for a benign action is the problem.
If you say, "downvoting is benign" then I say: Pay attention to first offense. Responding negatively to negative stimulus is INFINITELY more justifiable than spontaneously creating negativity, like judging someone harshly for simply using an * instead of a normal character.
You should not be more angry at the person angrily defending someone from judgemental dumbasses than the judgemental dumbasses, unless you yourself are a judgemental dumbass.
Don't be the prick defending hateful behavior just because you'd do it too. That's, "it's just a prank, bro!" levels of being an uncaring piece of shit.
