Some customers say auto dealers have steered them away from buying electric cars and trucks

Been true for quite a while — dealers often refuse to stock them because they don't need as many repairs

No biggie. EV’a are a capitalist scam anyway and a dead-end technology.

Could you elaborate on that claim?

I believe the OP's point is that because EVs still use fossil fuels and companies still make a massive profit from it, it's a scam but I could be wrong.

It's also possible it is related to what seems to be going on in the US.

The government is heavily promoting short-range EVs to capitalism our way out of climate change. Never mind there is a carbon cost in buying a new car versus using an existing car of recent vintage with good pollution controls, or just finding ways to drive less.

I've also a theory that perhaps those campaigning for the EV future hope people will then use EVs to try and travel longer distances, resulting in frequent recharging stops at diners and such every couple of hundred miles, leading to a return to the 1950s when travel was with short-range inefficient gas cars.

Think back to Route 66 and all the "American car traveling" adventures of the time with motels and diners and gas stations being a frequent stop. Small towns are now suddenly relevant again! All sorts of new business across the country! All because people have to stop more often to recharge.

Much different than using modern efficient gas and hybrids that can go 500-800 miles on a tank of gas.

Only a theory though. I'd hope that it is an incorrect one, as that would be quite an unsustainable boondoggle for the government to gamble on. Only came to mind as there are many olds in power these days that could be thinking back to "the good old days".

I agree, they use fossil fuels and aren't gonna solve the problem long-term. More greenwashing for the masses. Abolish cars!

Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:
