Reddit is removing your chat history from before 2023
(www.theverge.com)
This is a most excellent place for technology news and articles.
People used the chat feature?
IIRC, the only chats I ever got were... like... bots for brands, or OF girls.
Damn is that a typical date for you bro??
Don’t forget that a person who contacts people in this way has to be weird just due to the way of how she found you. As sad as it is for her, there’s a reason why she’s lacking friends this hard.
And newbies who didn’t realize that chat was trash that didn’t work on 3rd party apps.
The only time I ever chatted was with a guy who tried convincing me the Holocaust wasn't real
They never made it available to 3P apps. I always figured they bought a chat system off the shelf just to say they had it.
There was a chat feature?
There was. I turned it off in 2019 because I was using a 3rd party Reddit app and didn't realize 5 people tried to message me through the chat feature.
Yeah that's how I feel because I used uBlock to hide the icon
Towards the end there anytime someone would pm me about something like 80% of the time it'd be a chat. I exclusively browsed on Reddit sync so when I randomly got on reddit desktop and saw I had like 10 chats from months ago it surprised me. Just goes to show how the community has shifted from when I first started 13 years ago and now imo.
Yeah I used RIF for 99% of my Reddit browsing. Once I logged onto Reddit on my PC and found some months old chat comment for someone that was requesting help with an experience I had. I felt bad about not seeing it because I genuinely would have given them a comment on it sooner if they would have just PMed me.
You perfectly illustrated how pointless the chat system is. PM was and is a perfectly viable way to contact people, no need for a jank messenger knock off.
Porn subs used it a lot, beyond that I’m pretty sure it was mostly useless
Lol right? Who gives a shit
I had a few people contact me for technical clarification on comments I made. Somebody also briefly used me as a support hotline for technical problems.
