How many calories per day are prisoners given to eat?
(lemmy.world)
There is no such thing as a Stupid Question!
Don't be embarrassed of your curiosity; everyone has questions that they may feel uncomfortable asking certain people, so this place gives you a nice area not to be judged about asking it. Everyone here is willing to help.
Reminder that the rules for lemmy.ca still apply!
Thanks for reading all of this, even if you didn't read all of this, and your eye started somewhere else, have a watermelon slice ๐.
1600? Yikes. That's like bare minimal survival. I bet the big hefty people that go in there feel quite a bit of suffering until their bodies get used to so little food.
Prison, in most countries, is intended to be vengeance. A bit of suffering is the point, unfortunately.
I'm not sure but I think that it's also to keep the prisoners slightly malnourished so they're easier to control.
yeah that's rough. Even as a non-prisoner, if I eat so few calories, I can't think clearly and I can't sleep at night.
You can buy peanut butter and ramen and such from commissary.
At a 600% markup, with your .35 per hour wages.
Yikes, a 600% markup would mean that these 16-ounce peanut butter jars would cost almost $20 each ๐ณ
are you serious? Or are you exaggerating a little?
600% is definitely hyperbole on my part. I don't know the exact prices, but they are significantly marked up. The hourly rate is pretty accurate though.
