That was the first accusation. His wife plagiarized more.
The issues is that her billionares husband used the exact same "weak" plagiarizism that the previous harvard dean had done in 1997 as a pretext to have her fired for not stopping student protests about the gazan genocide on campus. He attacked her over and over and over and was instrumental in her ouster for things his very own wife did in her work.
Its a story about hypocrisy and how plagiarism, sometimes minute cases, is being used to discredit otherwise excellent professionals.
In the larger scope of things, yes plagiarism will become more important as AI companies try to take everyone elses work and get paid for it.
It is already a rampant issue on youtube, as the incentives there almost always line up with stealing as much intersting work of someone else as possible to keep your content mill going. Hbomberguy did an exhaustive and excellent video tlaking about the specific harm that plagiarism causes, which is generally that it prevents people doing innovative or valuable work from getting credit, which may stop them from making more good work in the future.
Still, this doesn't meet a reasonable bar of plagiarism. I get the hypocrisy but two wrongs don't make a right and this should never have been taken seriously.
