Because basic economics is never taught properly in schools. People don't understand what free healthcare/education/whatever costs. Because, at least in the US, universities are heavily politicized by anti capitalist mentality.
The US is the largest global economy. How is it that free healthcare is a thing even in developing countries?
A few days ago my grandfather used an ambulance and the total cost was $0. I live in a developing country.
There is no such thing as free healthcare.
And yet, I'm not going bankrupt after someone in my family used an ambulance.
Oh, US healthcare is messed up. That's a 100%. Still doesn't mean the so called free healthcare is the solution.
USA spends more just in taxes on healthcare than the OECD average total. USA total is double the OECD avg total. People in the US are not getting what they pay for.
Weird. I attended a university in Germany and paid like 300€/semester and got a government student loan so I have student debts of like 10K because everything the government lend me more than that is a gift. That's how free education is working. If health insurance is mandated, this is working too.
