As a young child, you learn the Civil War was about slavery.
Later, you learn the Civil War was about a lot of complicated things.
Ultimately, you learn that the Civil War was about slavery.
Edit: And remember, Juneteenth is fairly close to commemorating this, especially with the current state of southern politics.
I am very grateful that Juneteenth is now a federal holiday. Of course I appreciate the day off work, but I also appreciate the reason for that day of celebration.
