I do envy those that can just trauma-dump on acquaitances, get a hug, and feel like they've made big progress, though. Must be nice feeling good about not actually solving any problems.
Talking often helps people understand their feelings. Validation from others helps people feel that their problems are legitimate, solvable, and worth addressing.
Talking may not immediately solve the underlying issue, but it's a step on the way.
