This raises a question in my mind. Didn't Star Trek predate the Tolken definition of elf? Was there a fantasy setting definition prior to both that wasn't like ... Santa elves or some shit?
The Hobbit was released in 1937, and The Lord of The Rings in 1954 Star Trek was released in 1966, and the original pitch was written in 1964.
LotR was released a decade before Roddenberry even put pen to paper the first time regarding Trek.
