a single mom of two children in their twenties, said when she lost financial support from their father earlier this year

Wait, is she supporting two adult kids alone? Are they disabled or are we missing some major context here?

The article also doesn't mention is she works full time or what her position is. A cashier working part time isn't going to support anything.

So, you are saying that people in her position deserve shit wages, so that the owners can make bonuses.

This is a really shit viewpoint. "If you have family members with problems, you deserve all that you get if you can't get a sweet job."

No, those are two separate issues.

Her situation has less to do with Metro, and more to do with the fact that she has two adult kids who can contribute to the household income, and that a cashier position would never be able to support three adults and all the expenses that go along with owning a home.

Do Metro workers deserve to be paid more as the company posts massive profits? Absolutely.

Should cashiers be expected to make $40 an hour? Absolutely not.

Everyone who is working should make a minimum of a living wage. Part time jobs are there to allow the employer to pay more people less with less benefits. Change your business model, hire full time employees, and pay everyone a minimum of a living wage or you are making profit on the backs of the people doing the actual work.

I am assuming that they brought up her kids because she recently lost child support payments. Child support payments often don't stop when the child stops being a minor if they are in university/college. The adults being in their 20's lines up with finishing a degree.

The article also doesn’t mention is she works full time or what her position is

The article doesn't say that she is full-time, but it does say that she's worked 6 days a week for 19 years and that her position is "head cashier". It's the blurb under the picture at the beginning.
