Seems presumptuous they use an 8 bit byte in middle earth. I'd expect more like 20 bits, but divided between men, elves, and dwarfs. Well, except one of those bits is the one true bit, having spooky control over the other bits. Clearly middle earth computation is quantum.

Dont think its quantum. Its all deterministic and based on the music of the ainur. So its analog.

What about the Hobble..., half-hobbyte...?

Does not sound as good as yours though, hahaha

[-] zqwzzle@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

So does this mean that the "Second Breakfast" contingent of the Fellowship can be stored in one Hobnibble? Seems apt.

I am missing Hobword, Hobdword, Hobqword 🧐

[-] Djtecha@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

Am I crazy... But wouldn't 1 hobbyte equal 8 Hobbits?

[-] Blyfh@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Yes... that's why there are 8 Hobbits on the right – to represent 1 Hobbyte.

You know I talked this over with my partner who saw it that way. To me it's more of an equal statement which would be incorrect. But humored me about how 2 brains can have a completely different understanding.
