Have you tried water?
Oh my god you solved it! You solved ADHD! Water! Genius!
They weren't responding to curing ADHD with water. They're responding to the title, asking what they can drink to avoid caffeine.
Water is great for hydration but it’s not a stimulent…
Look I dunno. Title didn't say they were using it to self-medicate! I take prescription drugs for my ADHD. If caffeine helped I'd probably do that too.
Just drink water while taking your ritalin
My pleasure. No need to thank me.
Ritalin
I miss Kobayashi 😞
Barley coffee. Coffeine has no additional effect if you're already on it, except making you feel down (withdrawal symptoms) if you've got none.
Btw, coffee: https://nutritionfacts.org/blog/paper-filtered-coffee-and-cholesterol/
For ADHD medication, better ask a professional. Aside from Ritalin, there's others like Concerta too.
I use Ephedrine (Primatine, Bronkaid) for my ADHD and it works pretty well. Both are over the counter, just require an ID
What this pic from? Also this is me everyday. I joined this community to get info for my son who is adhd but then I end up relating to a lot of the stuff on here. Maybe I am this....
Miss Kobayshi's Dragon Maid
Yeah, often one parent has some light symptoms already too. That was a blow for my dad back then.
Thank you and I'm not surprised I was told I was ADA when I was a kid, but it was during that time when they said all kids were so they could all get us on Ritalin.
L-tyrosine makes my brain work better
Well 700mg is extremely high for me personally I only need 120-200 MG that lasts me about 5-6 hours and i take a melatonin for sleep or do some exercise which helps alot. But each person is different sounds like you need a sabbatical so lower dosages help you
Melatonin helps me sleep the first four or so hours, then Zyrtec helps with the last four. You can take the Zyrtec any time since it's a 24 hrs pill, but I try to take mine around bedtime. They don't make me groggy or anything during the day, and they even help with mosquito bites!
Edit: Also Costco sells a year's supply for the cost everyone else sells a month's worth.
Melatonin only helps me sleep within a 45 minute windows which can be ignored. Zyrtec does nothing to me only benadryl and alcohol. Have a sleepy effect for me.
rest?? what do you mean vacation? I just need a larger stick to hit myself. It worked so far, it will work again!
No, I'm not stubborn, you don't understand, by hurting myself I'm actually supporting heart transplant industry, therefore enacting systemic change
sorry, I think some of the suggestions in this topic worked too well
One of my friends used to drink 2-3 monsters a day and now can't drink any caffeine or alcohol because it messed up his heart.
Nicotine.
Try herbal teas? Main idea would be to lower the dosage but still intake some caffeine so your brain won't protest too much. Plus you can transition from teas to regular water pretty easily after.
Kratom is stimulating but not as much of a harsh stimulation IMO. A close friend of mine has ADHD, and he has repeatedly expressed how grateful he is that I introduced him to kratom. He gets a lot of side effects from Vivance (and the others) that kratom helps smooth out.
I am not sure if I truly have a mild form of ADHD or if I just share some of the symptoms, but I generally find it easier to concentrate when I have some kratom in my system. All of my close friends are neurodivergent, and I suspect there's a reason why.
Damn Lemmy is wild, we're just out here casually recommending kratom.
I'm glad it's working for you, but also we have no long term studies about refined kratom (and yes, it is refined, unless you're out there eating the diet and chewing the m. speciosa leaf of the indigenous South East Asian tribes this practice originates from). I've had several classmates who replaced their Adderall addiction with kratom, and the side effects were nasty as hell, one of them even has permanent liver damage because of it.
Sorry to be a fed, but I recommend anyone who wants to try kratom to really look into dosages and usage time beyond a cursory Google search and what random people (including me) say on social media before committing.
Huh, I may need to look into this.
May want to take a deep dive into it. Krstom is a type of opiod and I've heard other anecdotes that Kratom addiction can be subtle and the withdrawals are crazy bad.
That's all I needed to hear to avoid it. Thanks. Maybe it was ketamine I looked up before.
Ketamine is probably what you're thinking of. Not as bad, it's pretty addictive (but so is adderal, go figure). From what I'm aware, if you want concentration you would need pretty small doses of ketamine as it's mostly a downer. The other thing though is that you can't do ketamine habitually for a long time because it really fucks up your bladder.
I don't think addiction should be a problem for me. I've opted to lower my stimulent medication dosage so I think that's a good sign. I'd like to try it at least once.
Low dosage ketamine IV treatment has some promising early results, especially with extreme ADHD symptoms or comorbidity with depression/anxiety, and lasts longer than the current injection methods.
I know it's pretty inaccessible depending where you live in the world, but if you have any places around you that are doing research trials of this, I would highly recommend signing up. Not only do you get to try the treatment in a controlled environment, you contribute more data to the pool for eventual large scale treatment methods.
Just checked an my city has a clinic! No idea how to get in or what their focus is but that gives me something to research. Thanks.
Edit: and I'm priced out. Oh well. Maybe in the future it will lower or will be covered.
Maca root is another option. Some vitamin B-12 works for me, but then I have vitamin deficiencies.
I love my caffeine, but after noon it's usually a mistake for me to drink anything stronger than a green tea.
Kratom has definitely been the best of the lot though.
