You mean yet another Republican plan turned out to simply be a grift to remove tax payer funds and insert them directly into rich friends and political donor pockets? It's absurd that people keep listening to Republicans do the same thing and then act shocked when they get the same results

Oh shit I just read the article... Let me point out the part they're not saying, Republicans are lying to get rich while destroying the education system once there is a huge budget deficit, the Republicans will say need to get tough on Democrats spending money (despite the deficit coming directly due to Republican legislation) to do that we need to make cuts in (all programs that benefit the middle to low class) safety net programs.

Just to help it go down smoother the Republicans will also add a line item which gives more tax cuts to the rich and most likely the same folks pocketing the 1.4 billion in voucher funds.

It's a goddamn scam to deprive/erode all but the richest Americans of quality of life.

I'm so sick of paying attention to politics...

It's all I've seen for decades now...

Democrats suggest making people's lives better and Republicans freak the fuck out about that being communism and then shovel public money at private ultra wealthy individuals.... Propagandists sing songs of communism killing everyone and we move rightward again.... Over and over and over and over and over.

The "greatest" fucking goddamn achievement we have over the last 30 fucking years IS A REPUBLICAN MARKETS BASED HEALTHCARE PLAN. Even our goddamn so called achievements are fucking compromises for Republicans that they freak out about anyway because power > everything else to them...

I'm so tired of this fucking story.

Democratic citizens need to vote. They typically only get ~50% attendance in midterm elections, ~65% when correlating with presidential elections. Unlike presidential elections, you directly elect your representatives and senators.

Sizable and prolonged congressional majority would help things immensely.

[-] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 7 points 2 months ago

Nearly every problem we're facing gets better if the Republicans just go away

[-] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 89 points 2 months ago

Working as intended.

School vouchers are designed to indirectly defund public schools, leading to a widening of the class-based education gap in our nation.

[-] nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 months ago

As the kids say, the grift do be grifting.

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 73 points 2 months ago

Because they are fucking retarded. Just have the government adequately fund schools like it is supposed to. Its not fucking hard.

[-] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 70 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

LOL here's the thing: wealthy people don't want their tax dollars paying for poor kids to get educated. they want YOUR tax dollars to pay for THEIR kids to get educated. and that's what they got, thanks to poor dumb republican single issue voters thinking their vote is a vote for jeebus

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

If my kids can't go to school because of Project 2025 that only leaves one option for us. I'm not giving to a society that only takes.

Start a revolution and overthrow a corrupt oligarchy-turned-christofascist-dictstorship?

School Vouchers Were Supposed to Save Taxpayer Money.

Only if you only listed to pro+voucher people and literally nothing else. Anyone with 2 good braincells is able to see that the voucher system is designed to siphon money from the public and put it into private hands.

[-] Potatisen@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Aaaaaand the laaaannndddd of the freeeeeeee

[-] WraithGear@lemmy.world 48 points 2 months ago

No they were supposed to siphon education funds away from poor people and minorities. At greater cost to the tax payers. Education is a luxury of the elite.

[-] CaptainSpaceman@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

While also enriching private religious based schools

[-] john89@lemmy.ca 35 points 2 months ago

If it's funded by taxes, it should be owned by the public.

[-] Asafum@feddit.nl 13 points 2 months ago

Fusion energy enters the chat.

(I'm so fucking mad we're about to hand off billions in research and decades of work to corporations to profit off of like crazy...)

[-] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 2 months ago

Pharmaceutical research checking in.

[-] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 34 points 2 months ago

As a result of all this unexpected spending, alongside some recent revenue losses, Arizona is now having to make deep cuts to a wide swath of critical state programs and projects, the pain of which will be felt by average Arizonans who may or may not have school-aged children.

[-] orclev@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

Anyone with a brain saw that this was the goal all along.

[-] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 months ago

I wish I had a brain saw.

Could use it to replace the defective brains of these fucking republican morons/thieves.

[-] Exusia@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Wanted to let you know I really appreciate the turn of phrase with brain saw here. I look like the office idiot with monster in my nostrils now.

[-] snooggums@midwest.social 33 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

No, they lied about it saving taxpayer money and it had the intended and obvious outcome of fucking the budget.

[-] webadict@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

I don't see how taking money away from the public education system AND allowing the vouchers to reduce taxable income for the users couldn't possibly result in more money for the state, but I also enjoy the sweet taste of lead paint!

[-] jprice@kbin.run 21 points 2 months ago

They do that garbage in Florida too because the religious people are fucking retarded and we need to put a lid on them. How can the country govern itself when half the population is a bunch of superstitious retards. Ulysses Grant was right about them and the future, which is now.

[-] tinfoilhat@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago

What did Grant say?

[-] psmgx@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

I mean fucking duh. Who thought this was anything other than a cash grab?

[-] Mediocre_Bard@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago
[-] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

I too would like to find this magical place where I can give away money, get nothing in return, and somehow end up with more money.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Which is the point of the whole plan.

[-] LEDZeppelin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago
