I’m using Memmy but trying to read comments in my notifications crashes the app half the time and seems like it’s not getting updates.

Any good alternatives that can actually handle comments on Lemmy?

You can try my Lemmy app, Arctic. It’s a pure swift based iOS app, written with performance, and content presentation in mind. It’s packed full of features, and new ones are being added constantly.

You can read more about Arctic over at !arctic@lemmy.world

I keep switching between Voyager and Avelon. I like both of them and am having trouble deciding which I like better.

Same here, currently using Avelon and pretty happy with it... Voyager dev recently announced he'll be working on it less going forward which may or may not be an issue 🤷🏻‍♂️

Both definitely feel like using "Apollo for Lemmy" though 👍

That's a shame :(

I really like Voyager!

[-] darreninthenet@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

From what he's said he's not abandoning it but I guess it won't advance much or as quickly... he's only just said so we don't really know if and how it'll impact things

Yup, that’s actually the reason I checked out Avelon. Voyager is great, but it’ll be hard to keep up if it’s being worked on less. It’s too bad because it’s a great app! I certainly understand you can’t put too much into something you make no money from although I would pay for it at this point!

You could help pay for it! I contribute $5/month to the creator.

Voyager is pretty stable and similar to Apollo. I still have issues with it saving text after posting a comment and starting a new one. As well as the text not scrolling on longer comments where I go past the initial text box. It works super solid for browsing communities though

I am loving Memmy! Feels the most Apollo like.

[-] kobra@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago

Memmy was on track for a while but imo their user interface is awful in comparison to Apollo. I'd highly recommend checking out Voyager if you liked Apollo's interface, its almost a 1:1 copy

What don’t you like in the memmy UI?

[-] kobra@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It's cluttered, especially the comments. Instead of using the existing 'up arrow/comment count' (to the right of usernames) as a vote button (like almost every other app has done), they added 3 net-new buttons to the lower right of every single comment for upvote/downvote/reply.

I personally use Thunder. In a sea of Apollo looking apps, Thunder is unique and stands out. Special mention to Arctic and Avelon because they can embed and play videos/gifs without opening the in-app browser. Lemma can do it too but it's still very new and lacks features.

[-] GreneArwe@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

I use Thunder for the exact same reasons. I’m personally not a big fan of the Apollo look. Just doesn’t do it for me. Thunder has also been the most stable for me as well.

Another vote for Voyager here, works well

Voyager and Memmy for main use

Liftoff for…other things

[-] Disgusted_Tadpole@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Voyager user, but Lemma (Testflight) is a really strong and promising competitor

[-] Broken_Monitor@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I’ve had occasional hiccups with Memmy not loading comments or just straight up giving an error. I had to delete and reinstall to fix it. Its been working fine ever since

[-] kobra@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

I've been loving Voyager myself but I'd also recommend giving Avelon and Lemmios a shot too.

[-] drudoo@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Basically tried them all and I’ve been using Avelon pretty exclusively for the past couple of weeks.

[-] Donebrach@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Been using voyager. Seems pretty okay.

I feel like the jury’s still out a bit. We had some insane development during July, then it steadily dropped off. Lots of decent apps, but not many being updated during the last month.

And they aren’t really in that good of a state, still many kinks to iron out.

Lemma is a newcomer that seems pretty great. I miss some sorting options, other than that it’s awesome.

[-] SideshowBoz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Mlem, Bean, Avelon, and lots more! (Mlem is open source and native, am one of the contributors and it’s under active development 🥲)

[-] waatchaa@jlai.lu 2 points 1 year ago

Avalon on iPhone, but Voyager on iPad

[-] cypher_greyhat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

As a side note: I’m trying multiple apps right now and comments on this post aren’t showing in multiple. Only in the web browser. Maybe API changed.

[-] isaachernandez@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Memmy is good

[-] slin@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

Arctic, Avelon, Mlem.

[-] ramble81@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Is there anything like Sync? I've been using an Android for years and used Sync on Reddit but am going to be switching to an iPhone.

I truly enjoy Bean most. I like Voyager as well. For PWA I like https://phtn.app

Lemmios is great too. It has alert features where you can set up notifications whenever a new post is made in certain communities. It's very useful. Also it's the only app where inbox notifications consistently work for me.
