At first glance through the github repo, it looks like a cool project but I can't see what or why it's better/different than say syncthing or ownCloud/nextcloud?

Nextcloud and Owncloud are not E2EE. Hoodik is E2EE.
Syncthing syncs a folder between 2 or more devices, Hoodik is an E2EE version of Nextcloud

I mean...Nextcloud over HTTPS is an E2EE version of Nextcloud isn't it? I just don't see the whole E2EE slant...
Your files are not encrypted at rest on Nextcloud. Hoodik claims that your files are encrypted at rest.
