Sweet, free van!!!

But in all seriousness, hope you're feeling better soon! Chef must rest!

Test is negative! 🪩💃🏼 And I can taste more things! I didn't realise until I bought some mixed donuts for the Minipeelers and Elder asked what the yellow ones were and I took a bite and said, "pineapple" lol. Spent most of the day cleaning in the lounge room, which hasn't had a decent clean in a while. Four long haired people in a place really take it's toll in terms of fluffage in the carpet and upholstery. Now I'm going to make some schnitzels and maybe a quick curry. I'm back baby 👉🏼😎👉🏼

17 year old me would be happy in the back row. 27 year old me would've fallen asleep. 47 year old me just wants to get my monies worth.

Almost nearing the end of this retaining wall. my new best friend is a cheapo ozito corded drill. Had to get some screws through pretty thick metal fence posts which the way more expensive cordless one couldn't and it worked. So satisfying seeing the sleepers snap in flush when the screw goes through the post.

Can't believe I haven't fucked it up yet or injured myself (not including back) which is amazing.

I'm watching Fantasmas and this is the most bonkers thing I've watched all year.

rambling

Despite wanting to have nothing to do with the modern world at times this feels like the most cathartic TV series ever. Like someone compressed all my millennial stray thoughts and anxieties and imagination and feelings into an insane fever dream of interwoven comedy sketches. There is really nothing like this out there at the moment.

It's the writer of SNL's most famous sketches like Papyrus and Wells for Boys doing an entire season of wack which is like a dream come true (okay, I see he's done another TV show that I have to track down).

I'm glad TV like this gets made; and I'm glad it isn't as insular and navel-gazing and obnoxiously value-signalling as I feared it might be. There's an endearing, lovable heart behind the turbocharged surreal/ironic humour.

Worth a watch if you feel like it's time for something completely different... and want to process life a little differently.

PS Bibo is my favourite character. angrysound.mp3

After my little mini rage on Monday, they pushed child protection along and got the security upgrades happening. The 4 things they promised were:

  • a gate on the driveway (which is currently the only unprotected entrance)
  • security cameras around the property
  • proper locks on the side gates (currently 2/3 gates are just a simple latch with a padlock hole I've put an unsanctioned padlock in)
  • a deadbolt on the front door
  • replacement door frames to fix all the damage old mate inflicted with his little knife episode

Apparently all except the deadbolt have been approved (they're still trying to come up with a solution that doesn't violate the fire code thingies, although I guess technically the screen door is a deadbolt, since it can't be opened by sliding a knife into the lock and prying, which is all I really wanted. A dude came out today to measure the door frames, apparently they're going to replace all the doors as well. Interestingly they've actually used a local tradie instead of the idiots from mcpeake.

Mcpeake are the previously unnamed idiots that do stupid work that I mention almost weekly. As I understand it, they have the contracts for fixing, upgrading, and maintaining all public housing and out of home care properties in Melbourne. They seem to take it for granted, or the department is locked into a long contract. they don't provide timeframes, they usually rock up unannounced (a problem because I'm not allowed to let them in, or approve/sign off on any work, that's all the property managers job), at least outside of emergency works. They also do shoddy work, are staffed exclusively by arseholes (their google reviews are hilarious btw), and usually don't even finish the job right.

But it seems that people above the property manager have been stressing the importance of getting things done in a timely fashion, and they ended up finding local tradies to do most of the work.

So I got sent a link to view the ct scans of my face, from the radiology department.

I have never seen the inside of my face before, it's super wild! I can scroll up and down through the 'slides' and like, move back and forth and up and down these scans of my head.

I feel a tad ick, all the nerves in my face are tingling now that I'm aware 👀 but it's also really cool!

It also confirms what I have long suspected, that my skull is quite empty and cavernous.

need to find a diplomatic way of saying "If you had've actioned this when I called it out +12 months ago you wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. This isn't my job and you cant keep asking me to do shit cause ya'll cant be fucked doing the work yourselves or even trying to figure it out". Didnt even make it to 10am before I gave up today.

[-] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

"It is my recollection that the last action on this item was sitting with you......" and of course attach the pertinent emails/documents.

[-] Baku@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

"as per last year's email"

Tbh I'd unironically do it 🤷‍♂️

Hey Melbourne Metro if you could turn the heat down on the trains that would be super, because I didn't feel like sitting on the surface of the sun today.

I suspect my doctors has now got an automatic pre-recorded message you have to listen to before reception pick up the call. They always used to answer pretty quickly, but in the last year literally never pick up. Automated ‘Welcome to blah blah. If it’s an emergency hang up call 000. You can now make appointments online at blah blah blah details, opening hours, useless info’ etc and it goes for a full several minutes before someone picks up. I think they are trying to minimise answering calls. Look I know how to use the online bookings, if I’m calling it’s because I have a question. Annoying.

My late afternoon tea might have actually been dinner. Lemon meringue tart, delish.

I'll have some veggies tomorrow I promise.

I'd say my days gone to shit, but lets be honest it started there so performance has been consistent. Does anyone know where i can buy a mars bar slice in the CBD? Feeling like that might be the start of turning things around.

[-] danwritesbooks@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

Hopefully you find that mars bar slice and your day turns for the deliciously better.

In an effort to lift my mood I'm looking at visiting my aunty in WA over the AFL PH given that she has her birthday that week too. Flights are never cheap, but they're less gross than usual atm... I haven't seen her in quite a while and I've got just enough leave to make it work. Could do with a bit of mutual TLC.

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

A friend brought me some xs men’s trackies that were on clearance. They are a bit big but they fit more comfortably than the women’s /shrug

Melbcat has been refusing her wet food for a few days (still eating treats and biccies). I’m going to have to give her meds directly and then feed the wet food after. Also a bit worried about her breathing and might have to return to the twice daily puffer.

It feels way too early for hayfever to set in but seems it has

I'm so annoyed at myself. Was supposed to do a fasting blood test this morning but I stupidly didn't put a reminder to not eat on my phone... And I rarely eat breakfast, but I'm WFH today and well, wouldn't today just be the day I go "oh! Leftover pasta, I'd better eat that" and I remember the blood test RIGHT as I finish eating... fuck. now I have to wrangle getting tested at 8 tomorrow before heading back to work.

Also very annoyed at uni who in their infinite wisdom have centralised all standard extension requests (NOT special consideration), and noooo a drs. cert isn't enough, they need to file a fucking special form outlining exactly how the illness hampered your ability to study. It's enough for my workplace that actually pays me money but it's not enough for a course that I'm paying to do?? Fuck these guys man, I will be glad to never deal with them again once I'm done with this course

Melbourne Pathology has 'supercentres' that are open from 7.30 am. I use the Northcote Plaza one, but there may be one closer to you.

Faark! Elec bill just under $800.

Not buying cheese this week.

[-] just_kitten@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

And I was shocked at a $90 bill for the last month... But like you, usage consistent with previous years, just that costs have shot up.

Far out I'd die from a heart attack with that kind of bill.

Ooh, today is new bank card day. They sent it with priority, so that's nice.

What's not nice is this new design. Previously I had a nice white one, with tasteful colour splashed around, and the numbers and my name hard pressed into it, but they've changed to an obnoxious yellow front, with nothing on it except a chip and a logo, then the back has all of my info on it. And it's not pressed into the card anymore, it's just written on, like a Myki card :(

Had a new client assigned yesterday and one shift proved it wasn't going to fly.
The co-ordinator was so quick to agree that I shouldn't go again (and wanting to know what happened in detail) that I suspect this isn't their first rodeo with her.
As I said to a friend, I'm too old and not getting paid enough to deal with that BS.

Urgh, what happened to the nice weather these past two days?

In between reading adult books, I tend to read some Goosebumps or Fear Street as a palate cleanser and also remind me of my childhood and also get me in the mood writing that kind of horror for kids.

Currently reading one of the Fear Street books and the main character wakes up thinking someone is trying to break in because of the news saying there's a prowler breaking into houses. She screams, her parents come in, turns out it's the classic tree branch tapping on the window. So then the Dad takes her into their bedroom, opens the bedside table and shows her the gun he has to protect them from any intruders and how 'it's always loaded' and 'right here' and I know it's blatantly Chekhov's Gun but as I read it, I couldn't help but laugh and think 'this is so America.'

Went to Soi 38 for the first time after work. It's a Thai restaurant in a parking garage that's been around for ever and is super popular. I feel like I got punched in the face with flavour .. so sour, salty and spicy. So delicious.

[-] danwritesbooks@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

How does this sound for the title of a cricket themed/haunted mansion story: Caught and Ghouled (a play on caught and bowled).

Otherwise I'm stuck with the temporary title of 'The Haunted Mansion' which is overplayed.

[-] Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I don't think the play on words works tbh. It's a bit of a stretch and ghouled and bowled doesn't even rhyme. I'd have never got that if you didn't explain it. Sorry but I feel you need to know how I feel
I believe this thread can come up with something better (let's go brains trust!)
Edit: something involving "boundary"?
