Look at that guy making that stupid face in the first thumbnail. I fucking hate that.

You might hate it, but it’s proven to get more people to watch the video. It sucks, but that’s how they make money to make more videos.

Anyone who cares about repairability probably knows what they're getting themselves into when buying TWS earbuds IMO, double thumbs down to Sony in either case.

ShortCircuit shouldn't really be taken seriously as it's almost an ad channel 🤷‍♂️... only reason to watch is for the personalities and very rare wierd tech

[-] Aarrodri@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 year ago

It's anyone taking TT seriously? It's more of a entertainment channel. It's the SNL of tech reviewers.

[-] unknown@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

I don't, it does not feel genuine anymore, they just pump them out.

SNL is giving LTT too much credit.

[-] thisfro@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 year ago

I think many are - to some extent. For many, repairability is not important, they want a good product (spec wise) and if it breaks, they have insurance or warranty. Or worst case they'll just buy new ones.

[-] unknown@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

It a shitty mindset but a common one. Putting warrenty claims asside, specs still aren't everything. Look at the coverage of gaming hand helds (switch/steam deck vs Asus ally). Linus thinks windows in this form factor is an advantage to the user experience because specification number goes up.

I'm glad I unsubbed from the LMG Team.

[-] crashoverride@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I wasn't watching them anymore anyway, but glad I unsubbed.

[-] unknown@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago

They are not what the used to be that's for sure. I rarely watch them and when I do I normally remember why I don't within a minute. Still hoping the will lift their game but subebed to a lot of other tech channels as they are all better than "how many USB device can you plug into a PC".

[-] dog_@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I mean I was in your boat for awhile, but when all the drama happened with LMG, that's when I unsubbed.

OP not doing their F-Droid updates is giving me anxiety. 😄

[-] unknown@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago

When I croped it I knew someone would comment on it. Rest assure F-droid updates are done.

[-] Clav64@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 year ago

Informative and unfortunate.

NewPipe is the way to go

At least their bigger WH models (and the MDR1000X) have replaceable batteries. Sony just tends to stop manufacturing those very quickly, but there are 3rd party ones.

The biggest gripe I have with Sony is their ear pads. They are just so fucking expensive. I wear mine every day because I live in a very noisy neighborhood. The pads are no good anymore after a year or so.

New pads for the WH1000XM5 cost over hundred dollars, last I checked. And they only had black ones available which is really nice when you bought the white model...

Added to that, most of the functionality depends on an app only available for Android and iOS. Have fun trying to adjust your equalizer settings when you're sitting at a PC.

Also...why can't I use the most expensive and latest Sony headphone with a Sony PS5? I don't get it. They want you to buy a different Sony headset if you want to use Bluetooth with the PS5 which is just stupid.

If it wasn't for their excellent noise cancelling, I wouldn't buy these things anymore.

[-] Aux@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Use this https://equalizerapo.com/ for your PC. It supports everything you might want and a lot more. The UI is weird, but man it's the best equaliser app still.

[-] PsychedSy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

I've been wanting to replace my xm4 pads, but I usually go for big, weird 3rd party ones.

I have Dekoni earpads now, they are available on wodaudio: https://shop.wodaudio.com/produkt/dekoni-ersatz-ohrpolster-sony-wh1000xm4/

I especially like the "Choice Suede" variant, because it's so fluffy and feels nice. The original leather ones from Sony get very sweaty on hot days and are just unbearable.

Wod Audio makes better ones that cost less :)

...and now that I looked on their website again, I noticed that they also started manufacturing gray variants. HOORAY!

[-] PsychedSy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

Ug. I really want those now.

[-] Moonrise2473@feddit.it 2 points 11 months ago

You can't use the expensive Sony Bluetooth headphones with the ps5 because Sony didn't enable Bluetooth headphones support at all citing latency issues. The different Sony headset is using WiFi instead of Bluetooth and it only works with that

[-] lichtmetzger@feddit.de 1 points 11 months ago

citing latency issues

Which is clearly a load of BS, because using these headphones on Windows when gaming is totally fine.

[-] Moonrise2473@feddit.it 2 points 11 months ago

otherwise how they can sell overpriced headphones with a proprietary protocol that can be only used with that console?

[-] egonallanon@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

As someone with xm4s where the battery went in one a month after the warranty ended yeah don't get them. Gotta hope I can swap it when the replacement arrives.

[-] strawberry@artemis.camp 2 points 1 year ago

I had the eartip split in two literally a day before the return window closed so I just sent those fuckers back and got some audiotechnicas

[-] uberrice@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

I have xm3s and they are still going strong

[-] gjoel@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Ugh, I have the xm4 and they are a great example of too many features. They sound great! However... I often use them while biking, and any kind of noise control is completely useless. Letting in sound would be great, but the wind noise is deafening. Which means that I cannot use the noise controls anywhere. If I'm on a call it automatically let's in sound, which cannot be turned off.

Not to mention that they must have been designed specifically to be impossible to hold without dropping them.

And regularly the left one reboots...

[-] CheeseToastie@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I ran my Sony earbuds through the washing machine (not on purpose) and now they don't work. Any recommendations for a replacement?

[-] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 year ago

Use a damp cloth next time.

[-] Francois@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

Where do you get a Bluetooth damp cloth?

[-] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah 2x battery failure on xm4. Yet here I am with new xm5. Really hope they fixed that for these, I can't do without the superior anc
