He's just following the scotus.
Yeah, a precedent have been set that bribery is acceptable. If SCOTUS can get away with it, why can't Senator Bob?
He probably should resign
He should resign. It's his moral duty.
Yeah but he demonstrably doesn’t have morals.
This. His moral duty was not to take bribes in the first place.
Primary the bastard. Party leaders need to get behind one name. But I am curious about his explanation for $500k in cash in his house….fell out of a truck, found in the rafters of his home, from the great train robbery….?
Party leaders need to get behind one name.
Party leaders get behind the incumbent. At least that's their reasoning when they fuck over progressive challengers.
Party leaders get behind the most procorporate and pro oligarchy candidate.
Those are the only actual decision points.
He was primaried in 2018 after his first corruption charges didn’t stick. He was backed by members of the party as the incumbent and raised nearly $4 million for his campaign. His opponent got over a third of the vote with a campaign that raised less than $10,000.
Andy Kim announced he would.
He claimed its from his savings, kept on hand in cash/gold bars for "emergencies"
We have an extra flashlight for our home emergencies
SEN. John Fetterman
Put this douche in the cell next to trump.
Cain’t resign. Gotta get dem gold barzzzzz!
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., on Friday rejected calls for him to resign from Congress, saying he plans to fight charges that include allegations of bribery and corruption.
The senator's statement comes in response to a growing number of Democrats in New Jersey and on Capitol Hill calling for him to step down after a federal indictment against him and his wife was unsealed Friday morning.
“Under our legal system, Senator Menendez and the other defendants have not been found guilty and will have the ability to present evidence disputing these charges, and we must respect the process," Murphy said in a statement.
Rep. Andy Kim, D-N.J., also called on Menendez to step down, saying he lacked "confidence that the Senator has the ability to properly focus on our state and its people while addressing such a significant legal matter.”
In exchange, the couple received lavish bribes, including “cash, gold bars, payments toward a home mortgage, compensation for a low-or-no-show job, a luxury vehicle and other items of value,” prosecutors said.
Menendez dismissed the allegations against him in a statement Friday, arguing that he is facing "an active smear campaign of anonymous sources and innuendos to create an air of impropriety where none exists" and suggesting that prosecutors have “misrepresented the normal work of a Congressional office.”
