Coming from someone who always votes left down the ticket because I live in a republican state hell hole:

There's a reason we want democrats in charge. They aren't perfect, but my state had a democrat governor (somehow) for 8 years until this year. The very first thing the supermajority red government did was axe the ethics board. The next thing they did was pass laws banning books that acknowledged gay culture at all and a unilateral bathroom bill with felony penalties.

The "both sides are the different flavors of fascism" take only works when you're completely blind to what republicans are actually out there doing.

Sorry but the democrats won't save us. I'm not gonna support the people who I am currently watching commit genocide as if they won't do the same to me as soon as it benefits them.

[-] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 1 points 6 minutes ago

Awwww, drag thought you were a leftist. 😢

As a British person, I think living under Keir has made me even more apathetic to the US's faux-democracy. The attacks against trans people, disabled people and Palestine have arguably got worse, even if the authoritarian element has got some of the nastier neo-Nazis a bit disorganised.

Coming from a communist, vote today, protest tomorrow. I'm voting for Kamala and then immediately protesting for the Palestinians AFTER her election (hopefully).

[-] RedditReject@lemmy.world 28 points 2 hours ago

At least we will still be able to protest if Kamala wins

I love the saying, "The trees vote for the axe, because the axe has a wooden handle. Eventually, there'll be no more trees." I'm paraphrasing.

[-] Objection@lemmy.ml 21 points 4 hours ago

What people say about Palestinians today, they will just as quickly say about trans people tomorrow. As long as some minority is in the crosshairs, none of us are safe. The only viable strategy to ensure survival is solidarity, to recognize that our struggles are united and that an offense against one is an offense against all. Otherwise, you might as well be a pick-me.

[-] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 1 points 11 minutes ago

Drag agrees, and would like to thank you for speaking up against these non voters. As you say, we need to have compassion for Palestinians. If Harris loses the election, then Trump will bomb the West Bank. There's a lot of privileged losers saying we can afford to take that risk in the name of making some kind of point about democracy. That the lives of Palestinians don't matter. And precisely as you say, if we abandon our Palestinian siblings by not voting for Harris, then it'll be the trans people going to the concentration camps next. Drag thought maybe .ml was beyond saving, but your words prove that not everyone on ml is willing to let fascism happen in the name of ideological purity.

[-] Binette@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 hours ago

One of the most important things we learned in English class when studying fascism was that when it comes to fascism, you're next. It is not wise for a minority to throw the other under the bus, as if their suffering does not matter, not only because it isn't moral, but you'll see the people use the same excuses when your rights will be in danger.

[-] Fidel_Cashflow@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 hours ago

"I believe we should follow the law," Kamala Harris says when asked by Hallie Jackson if transgender Americans should have access to gender-affirming care.

Texas Dem Colin Allred uses anti-trans language to attack Ted Cruz: ‘Don’t want boys playing girls’ sports’

the people you say will defend trans people from eradication cannot even say they will protect trans people's right to healthcare, or even their right to exist. you need to understand that they will throw trans people, and really all queer or minority groups, under the bus the very second it becomes politically expedient.

[-] 474D@lemmy.world 8 points 2 hours ago

It's an election where you have to sway undecided voters, and by the numbers, trans are not that target. Point blank. You have two choices right now, as shitty as that may be. Which side do you think there's a better chance of progression at?

[-] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 hours ago

Question for the people posting this kind of meme, and fighting with leftists online: do you spend half this much time calling your dem reps/senators and demanding a change to their policy of supporting genocide? No need to reply, this is just for you to consider.

[-] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 1 points 5 minutes ago

You accidentally commented on the wrong post.

[-] itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 2 hours ago

Question for the people fighting the folks (most of which are leftists too) that vote Democrat out of self preservation: do you spend half as much time attacking Republicans too, or organizing out-of-parliament opposition?

A vote for Harris will not make things better. But if Trump wins, it will get so, so much worse.

[-] glitchdx@lemmy.world 11 points 2 hours ago

i swear to fuck, if i don't stop seeing this garbage after the election then I'm going back to reddit.

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 0 points 31 minutes ago

If hearing about your countries support for genocide and your complicity in it makes you want to stop listening, you should think harder about your actions.

(Assuming you are from the west)

[-] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 6 points 3 hours ago

All these "lefties" is weird. Yes, i understand your concern, but have you guys tried to convince Trump supporter to join your course and support your course? Because at this rate those independent WILL NOT WIN, drawing vote from Democrat is securing Republican position. Your strategy is not pragmatic and will only make sure you score an own goal.

[-] VonCesaw@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Not to play 'devils advocate' or whatever you'd prefer to call it, but i'd rather 'blue' make it PERMANENTLY ILLEGAL to ever consider doing [INSERT BAD THING] to [INSERT GROUP HERE]. Holding the vote hostage because 'if you vote red, they'll do [INSERT BAD THING] to [INSERT GROUP HERE], so not voting for us every time means you implicitly support doing [INSERT BAD THING]'

[-] yeahiknow3 5 points 2 hours ago

Except instead of magic we have to actually pass laws which require you to elect people and go through a tedious process.

Lefty Memes

4230 readers
2284 users here now

An international (English speaking) socialist Lemmy community free of the "ML" influence of instances like lemmy.ml and lemmygrad. This is a place for undogmatic shitposting and memes from a progressive, anti-capitalist and truly anti-imperialist perspective, regardless of specific ideology.

Serious posts, news, and discussion go in c/Socialism.

If you are new to socialism, you can ask questions and find resources over on c/Socialism101.

Please don't forget to help keep this community clean by reporting rule violations, upvoting good contributions and downvoting those of low-quality!

Rules

0. Only post socialist memes

That refers to funny image macros and means that generally videos and screenshots are not allowed. Exceptions include explicitly humorous and short videos, as well as (social media) screenshots depicting a funny situation, joke, or joke picture relating to socialist movements, theory, societal issues, or political opponents. Examples would be the classic case of humorous Tumblr or Twitter posts/threads. (and no, agitprop text does not count as a meme)

1. Socialist Unity in the form of mutual respect and good faith interactions is enforced here

Try to keep an open mind, other schools of thought may offer points of view and analyses you haven't considered yet. Also: This is not a place for the Idealism vs. Materialism or rather Anarchism vs. Marxism debate(s), for that please visit c/AnarchismVsMarxism.

2. Anti-Imperialism means recognizing capitalist states like Russia and China as such,

as well as condemning (their) imperialism, even if it is of the "anti-USA" flavor.

3. No liberalism, (right-wing) revisionism or reactionaries.

That includes so called: Social Democracy, Democratic Socialism, Dengism, Market Socialism, Patriotic Socialism, National Bolshevism, Anarcho-Capitalism etc. . Anti-Socialist people and content have no place here, as well as the variety of "Marxist"-"Leninists" seen on lemmygrad and more specifically GenZedong (actual ML's are welcome as long as they agree to the rules and don't just copy paste/larp about stuff from a hundred years ago).

4. No Bigotry.

The only dangerous minority is the rich.

5. Don't demonize previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

We must constructively learn from their mistakes, while acknowledging their achievements and recognizing when they have strayed away from socialist principles.

(if you are reading the rules to apply for modding this community, mention "Mantic Minotaur" when answering question 2)

6. Don't idolize/glorify previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

Notable achievements in all spheres of society were made by various socialist/people's/democratic republics around the world. Mistakes, however, were made as well: bureaucratic castes of parasitic elites - as well as reactionary cults of personality - were established, many things were mismanaged and prejudice and bigotry sometimes replaced internationalism and progressiveness.

7. Absolutely no posts or comments meant to relativize(/apologize for), advocate, promote or defend:

(This is not a definitive list, the spirit of the other rules still counts! Eventual duplicates with other rules are for emphasis.)
