Lmao I had a conversation with someone on lemmyabout how the first winner was (not surprisingly) an actor, with his own IMDb page. They swore up and down that nooooo that guy was an honest to God real winner.

Hahahahahahaha

A lot of right wing bobbleheads are actors from the same casting agency. Candace Owens, Tomi Lahren, and Lauren Boebert among others are from the agency Explore Talent.

So this is totally unsurprising.

Where is Alex Jones with his shit?

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Too busy hiding assets.

So instead of an illegal lottery it's just fraud.

Presenting a giveaway as random and then not following through with a random selection is very illegal. I guess it shouldn't be too surprising that Musk's lawyer just straight up admitted to a felony in court, given that there's no way a competent lawyer would have ever signed off on this and put himself in a situation where he'd have to defend it in court. Not unless Musk is willing to pay him so much that he'll never need to practice law again.

Unfortunate that they weren't able to do anything to stop the election interference. But there's enough blatant criminal activity here that there should be no reason why they can't press charges (state and federal) and throw his ass in prison. They just need to be willing to go after him, and also not have Trump in the white house protecting him.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

I'm sure they'll get right on that, right after they move forward with any of Trump's trials

I’m sure he is somehow shielded by the PAC.

[-] Makeitstop@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

The fucker personally handed out the giant check. He can't exactly argue that he wasn't involved.

[-] shalafi@lemmy.world 32 points 2 weeks ago

That actually makes sense. What if some little scammer like me won? I'd cash the check and start screaming.

"Fuck Trump! Fuck Musk! You two gullible idiots just paid me $1M and gave me a platform!"

[-] Waldowal@lemmy.world 24 points 2 weeks ago

This guy won $"John Dreher".

Guy holding a giant winner's check with his name, John Dreher, where the amount should be.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Is that a lot of currency in, wherever they accept Johns?

[-] sucoiri@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

How do they not know how to fill out a check?

[-] circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org 23 points 2 weeks ago

Everyone who gets this rich is a grifter. They have to be, because you don't become that insanely wealthy without ripping off everyone around you.

There should be no expectation of fair play by anyone with 9 zeroes in their net worth, at the very least.

[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 20 points 2 weeks ago

that just opens up a whole new can o' worms. better keep rfk jr out of the room.

[-] Breezy@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

No please let him in.

The worms will just eat him.

[-] rsuri@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

Chris Young, the director and treasurer of America PAC, testified that the recipients are vetted ahead of time, to “feel out their personality, (and) make sure they were someone whose values aligned” with the group.

So it's a scam designed to get ordinary people to align with the policies of the richest man on earth for the promise of monetary reward that never will actually materialize. Or, as it's known in the US, Republican politics.

[-] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 9 points 2 weeks ago

Republicans paying Actors a Million Dollars to show up at an Event and pose as a Normal Person is PROOF that DEMOCRATS are Paying Actors to Attend THEIR Events!

[-] bamfic@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

The most infuriating thing about this is there is no injunction stopping it. So it will do damage.

[-] originalfrozenbanana@lemm.ee 8 points 2 weeks ago

This is to circumvent election laws. They employ these people as spokespeople and pay them a million dollars for giving a single appearance. Nothing prevents them from getting up there and saying “fuck Trump and Elon is a slaver” at all.

I mean fuck Musk and fuck Trump for this, but probably not because these folks who “win” are frauds

[-] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 weeks ago

Actually the terms of the contract to pay them for the appearance likely DOES have specific clauses about what they are and are not allowed to say in their capacity as a spokesperson.

Afterwards? That gets into NDA territories where law is less important than lawyers.
